^ Beets are something I really wish I liked …I have tried multiple times but to me , they taste like dirt
I understand liking oysters if you chew them. It’s the shooters thing I don’t get - where does the satisfaction/flavor come from??
Tastebuds
There’s apparently a genetic predisposition to liking or not liking cilantro. Read it in 23and me. I love it.
I just want to say to most of you with bad memories of peas: try them again. This time try them lightly boiled, never canned-ugh! I bring frozen peas to a boil and then cover them and take them off the burner and let them sit for a few minutes. A whole different beast than canned or over cooked peas.
On oysters - I don’t do shooters. They are so yummy that just tossing them down would be a waste.
I agree with saintfan. Oyster shooters-what’s the point?
@Emilybee, I remember reading one of the Little House books when Laura talks about milking a cow, and immediately drinking a cup of it, enjoying the creamy warmth of it.
Would that make you hurl?
I used to love milk. Then I married Mr B who liked lukewarm milk. I do not serve milk to him anymore because I refuse to microwave a cup of perfectly cold milk.
Liver. My mom used to make it every week when I was growing up. Just the smell of it makes me want to throw up… Yuck!
More oysters for me!
Raw oysters are served in the shell with their brine and briefly chewed, but swallowed whole.
I also like them cooked. Pan fried after being dipped in saltine cracker crumbs & egg.
There are two restaurants in D’s college town that serve yummy shooters, with ghost pepper vodka.
Very filling though, for an appetizer.
Peas I often don’t even cook first if they are being added to something like chicken pot pie. Just steam them a little in the microwave or a steamer.
I also have to really be in the mood for cake & it has to be an excellent one for me to take more than one bite.
No shortening/Crisco.
Caviar.
The texture makes me gag.

I’d rather drink bleach.
“Loroco”
Worst thing ever…
Haha, I grew up eating liver and organ meats, and I love them (although I don’t eat any meat any more, since I am now a vegetarian, but I would love some organ meats…)
They don’t make a vegetarian seasoning that tastes like liver, but how about bacon?

Radishes, I would rather starve to death than eat one.
The only time I ever was RELIEVED that it was my turn to clear the table was when my mother would make liver and onions. I would cut it up in little pieces, shove it under something else on my plate, take my sweet time eating, then feed it to the dog after everyone left the table and I was no longer under any scrutiny. Blechhh!
My mom did a good job with liver. I believe my paternal grandmother cooked it and my dad liked it.
It wasn’t any stronger tasting than say, lamb. She soaked it in milk first & fried it with bacon & onions.
My dad was German, and he liked all the traditional sausages and sandwich meats. I liked braunsweiger, but not head cheese.
But my H is Scandinavian, so he grew up with much blander food.
I had to be really sweet to go to Thai food for Valentines Day.
My mother used to try to pass liver off as cube steak ….we didn’t fall for it though
