We knew it was time for our last golden when she suddenly could no longer stand up. She had cancer, and had had chemotherapy. We kept her going longer than the oncologist expected, with devoted care, but enough was enough. He said that she would die within the next couple of days, and meanwhile would suffer discomfort from lying in her own waste, since even if we took her out and help her up she probably couldn’t have dealt with it.
We definitely didn’t jump the gun.
