I went to the * “In loco parentis”…Do you live near a college?* thread and found the name of a poster who lived near my Ds university. I needed advise on selecting a dermatologist in the area. Not only did this poster tell me the name of a dermatologist but offered to drive D to the physicians office. I made an appointment and D was able to easily take the train - D has been extremely happy w/ the referral. Thank You!

A CC poster had her D take my D around her college. It was very sweet and considerate.

I remember the donation to the poster LAF mentioned, I hope she its doing ok, her story was moving.

Bookmarking a great thread. I will just say “thanks!” for now.

This is a beautiful thread.

My son had a dental emergency while in college many miles from home and desperately needed an oral surgeon. A CC parent recommended one and really saved the day!

LAF, I remember the thread, however, I did not contribute. I thought the FA office will be able to resolve the problem. I did not know you guys really did contribute. Its a warm feeling to know that the girl got to finish her education. You guys are really dedicated.

There have been similar threads before, and its been delightful to share how wonderful it has been to be on both sides of the helper/helpee equation.

On a thread for the college my d was going to start at I met a mom of a d who was a junior at said college. Little did we know we lived in the same town, minutes from each other, so we met for lunch. My d was going through some things as she started school, and this was heartwarming for me, to have someone who could offer some support. She was kind and open and just such a good soul…we even discovered we both had similar congenital heart defects… the four of us went out for coffee and the girls became friends at school, drove home together for holidays etc. Was a pleasure to celebrate her d’s graduation last year. It was a treat to meet a new friend, for me and my d.

A CC poster gave my D the name of a contact to send a resume to when she was looking for a job for after graduation. Nothing ever came of it, but it was very nice for someone you’ve never really met IRL to offer.

A CC thread diagnosed my daughters serious illness when her Dr.'s could not. It is under control now.

The depth of others compassion brought me to my knees with the life and loss of latetoschool. The power of the written word astounds me to this day.

I’m hanging around CC past the time our family has needed college advice.
The depth of knowledge and caring of the folks here is astounding.

Every time I’ve reached out for help here, I’ve gotten it.
One poster offered to have us stay in her home while visiting son at school when it appeared that a hotel room was not available. Amazing generosity.

This is a truly inspiring thread.

Oh yes. Anyone remember Marite? She not only checked out my son’s future apartment in Cambridge, but guided me to place to order his birthday cake. When his job turned out to be a poor fit for him, she would PM me with advice.

And curmudgeon; our kids were both caught in Philly snowstorm when in route to Yale. His DD made it there, while the worm got a hotel room and took the train next day. That was his day of interviews, but Yale extended his time so he tour the campus and labs and meet other grad students.

Two weeks before, once again a snow storm in Philly. Local CCers offered me and the worm advice about transportation to P-ton, and then which airport to fly out from. Without the local’s help, he wouldn’t have known to go to Newark, fly to Charlotte, and arrive in S.F. In time for Cal interviews. Other CCers shared opinions about final choice.

General, advice I heeded came from Susie in Vt, about booking graduation hotel room a year early. Oaklandmom suggested the place, and we got a great rate. Perfect location, and the worm stayed there several other times.

All I can think of now.

One of my D’s got an A on her final APUSH project after interviewing a CC parent. Another CC poster gave me a wonderful tour of Burlington, VT, and great restaurant recommendations. I also used CC advice when booking a hotel room in London.

If anyone wants to help a recently graduated D who is seeking a job in book publishing, I will be sure to give you lots of credit in this thread!

Actually, one CC parent did help arrange a couple of information interviews for her, so there has been some CC power already at work.

Oh, and another CC mom set my D up with her D, who works in the biz, to get advice and insight into the publishing world.

CC is the best.

Besides talking me off numerous ledges, the folks here helped me figure out a rather significant medical issue that the doctor could not.

We got terrific advice for my son from parents on the Music Majors forum. It’s had a major impact on his life (so far).

We received wonderful advice from Xiggi about studying for the SAT, and again many years later, about technology when DD was studying abroad.

The Weight Loss for Dummies thread inspired me to lose nearly 50 pounds - couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone on there.

I’ve gotten lots of advice about various parts of California which were very helpful (from a few different posters).

If anyone wants to help a CS major in the San Jose greater area…worked for a year; now hunting for a year. Eek!

This thread is making me tear up. Thanks for starting it zoosermom.
