The Random Questions thread

I just checked DHs closet. He has zero short sleeve button front shirts. All have long sleeves…and when needed, he rolls them up. He has a good variety from plain oxford cloth to some sublet plaids and stripes that are quite casual.

No socks with sandals either!

My husband has a ton of short sleeve button fronts… but they are all aloha shirts. meant to be worn in HI.

At one point in my DHs life, he had batik shirts from Southeast Asia that were short sleeved. I don’t think he ever wore them stateside!

Um…DH wears short sleeve button front oxford shirts with pockets to work all summer long. He won’t go more casual and wear the lighter weight, more stylish plaids and patterns. Even his mesh polos must have pockets. He’s a creature of habit.

If any of you remember the BBC series Rumpole of the Bailey…well, yes.
Sorry, world. I’ve tried!

I think jym means to describe shirts with a stitched front placket.

Rolling up sleves on a short sleeved tee shirt is very Brando Or Grease.

Oh yeah. Short sleeve dress shirts only work with a matching pocket protector or company logo emblazoned on it.

I would give a pass to a Hawaiian print for the silly uncle or dad at a barbecue. And also for a head football coach if the short sleeve are actually a cutoff sweatshirt and you’ve won six Super Bowls and 9 AFC championships in 19 years

I have a random question. Has anyone ever gone skydiving and what does it feel like? How scary is it? Is it similar to rides at amusement parks that drop really quickly to the ground?

DH isn’t in his 70’s, but apparently that’s how he dresses. He would never wear a shirt untucked, loves his button-front short sleeved shirts. Fortunately for me, he also has short sleeved polos, so he doesn’t always wear the button-front shirts.

Is this where everyone went to that’s like boycotting posting or something? ?. I feel like it’s detention… Lol…

But, I have some short sleeve shirts for casual wear but only long sleeve button shirts with tie in my medical practice. No short sleeves unless I am wearing scrubs that day.

For casual wear some short sleeve shirts I wear out of the pants/jeans and some I don’t. Just depends on the look.

Also someone made a comment on granimals… I am colored blind so dark blue is purple to me and dark green is brown. I can see other colors and have helped design things involving colors but when I first got married my wife like actually made a chart and sewed it into the collar so I could match shirts to pants to tie… Adult style… Lol.
Now I just have clothes that everything goes more or less. All black socks because in not the right light even dark blue looks black and the first time I went to work with one black and one blue sock…I got rid of all my blue socks… Lol. But I have some really nice colorful ties that will go with anything…

For all but the most formal businesses, Aloha shirts are acceptable, and standard, business attire in HI.

Yes, but only tandem.

To the thousandth power. With an amusement park ride, you at least hope that the brake will work. And yu’re jumping out of a plane at 10K feet. And at Six Flags, you don’t have to sign a million forms saying your estate will not sue if you die.

I’ve no interest in jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or bungee jumping off some huge bridge, but my DH and DS’s all went skydiving together (UGH!) for one of DS’s birthdays.
They’d signed the obligatory waivers, listened to the “ we don’t have any $ and don’t own anything so don’t even think of suing us”, followed by a video where some ZZTop looking guys said “in case you weren’t listening, we don’t have any $ and don’t own anything so don’t even think of suing us”. DH then notices a guy reading a REALLY thick Tom Clancy book, and inquired as to what he was reading because it was so thick. The guy said it was thick because it had enlarged print for his vision… And… then… he introduced himself as the PILOT!!! ???

Lol, that’s a funny story. How did he even become a pilot? @jym626

I see lots of short sleeved button front shirts here. It’s freaking HOT here. I don’t blame the guys at all.

I think I saw the same video.

I’m catching up here finding myself extremely glad we live in an area where fashion is no big deal - wear what you like! H, an engineer, wears short sleeve button up shirts all the time, all sorts except Polo types. He’s not fond of those. He never has to wear a suit or coat - had to pull one out for our son’s wedding and his mom’s funeral, but that’s about it. Jeans or khakis are quite suitable for meetings.

Even when he worked for a company (a little over two decades ago), the first time he went to work with a coat and tie they told him to immediately ditch the coat and tie.

We’re not allowed to wear jeans or sneakers to school, but otherwise that’s relatively casual too. Some men wear ties. Most don’t. Some ladies wear dresses or similar nice things. Others, like myself, are more casual (khakis or other colored pants, shirt, etc).

At church folks also wear what they like. Some are in suits (almost 100% the oldest generation). Some are in jeans or shorts.

No one cares. I love it that way. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere where folks cared what someone else opted to wear. Perhaps that’s why we love islands?

@Creekland I agree. I’d rather choose what I want to wear because I like it. I don’t want to just wear something because others influenced me to do so.

Well, I’ll be odd woman out. I love clothes. I love planning what I’m going to wear. I think clothes are fun. I don’t do super high fashion stuff, but I really enjoy wearing something that has a little bit of pizazz to it.

@VeryHappy I have no problem at all with folks who love clothes. We all get to pick what we enjoy. I only have problems when others decide what I have to like or do or wear. Basic dress codes are fine (like no jeans/sneakers at school), but specific dress codes (can’t wear a short sleeve dress shirt) would make me bristle. I avoid those jobs and most of those situations (fancy restaurants or events). I have other things I prefer, so nothing lost on my part.

Fun question:
I want to give my S something special and creative on his 18th birthday which is in less than a month (unfortunately I was too distracted by other things to think about this until now). I’m not a designer but I like to use various presentation/publishing software. For example, for my mom’s 75th birthday I created a fake Time magazine, all about her, which was a big hit, but also a lot of work. For the past holidays I gave a pretty “book” of S’s college application essays to all the grandparents. But I want to give him something more fun and appropriate for a teen, and wouldn’t take forever. I also gave custom T-shirts and mugs to people, but I have trouble coming up with the appropriate picture or message (nerdy, not banal, sentimental, or embarrassing). Any ideas?
