The Random Questions thread

The ear muffs sound like the best bet; thanks for the idea! I really just want less noise - I seem to get distracted by sounds easily, much more than husband for sure, and like quiet. I don’t really need ear phones per se since I don’t listen to music or podcasts. Or get many calls.

I also like Loops https://us.loopearplugs.com/

I think I’ll try these; I prefer not to stick something into my ear. I’ll just use them around the house and yard when the construction is going on.

Anyone have a good/easy way to hang clothes to dry inside of a cruise ship bathroom? Won’t have anything big - most likely just underwear, perhaps a swimsuit/top.

I haven’t been on a cruise but a hanger on a door knob or closet knob? Any knob?

Are there trouser hangers with pinch clips? I use those to hang “laundry” in hotel bathrooms. Just clip one piece on each side and hang on whatever it can be hung on, like shower head.

ETA: what @abasket said. Any knob would work.

If you bring a braided clothesline where you can tie it to doorknob and faucet or wherever would work. They sell them at travel sections/stores/Rick Steves, or you could make one yourself with elastic.

Clothes line in bathroom? - Celebrity Cruises - Cruise Critic Community (this link has several responses)

Many of the Viking river cruise rooms are really small (about 150 sq ft). To save room, opted lower level standard room, aka “swan room” due to water level view of birds. It worked for us since travelled with another couple, and most of our waking hours were ashore or in common space. One bonus was a shelf under the small high window. Good to stash stuff and to lay out hand wash to dry. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bdFd5URheT8

Braided clothes lines and magnets. Need to go shopping…thanks for all the prompt responses!

I brought these on my trip - Wenplus 10 PCS Super Strong Plastic Swivel Hanging Hooks Home Swivel Laundry Clips Curtain Clips Clothes Pins Beach Towel Clips, 4.3inch, White https://a.co/d/fj7jPGL

The ships almost all have a clothesline in the shower, and if not, these will let you hang in various places in your cabin.

Hint: after hand washing and hand wringing, lay a dry bath towel on the floor, lay each item perfectly flat and tightly roll all…once in a log (no other way to describe it), stand on it, back and forth, lengthwise, and unroll, whatever was in there, will be 75% dry, and hang - no dripping ever with this method - hang the towel to dry. I dedicated one towel just for this. Perfectly dried t-shirts, linen drawstring pants, sun dresses, undies, and bras by nighttime (I did wash right after the steward cleaned my cabin).

We use magnetic hooks. They can be used on the walls or the ceiling. This is what I have, but many are similar. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0787Q54M1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
They have worked really well on our past 2 cruises.

I will buy those for H. He’s resisted ever wearing his hearing aids since he retired and no longer feels a need for them as he did in meetings or lunches with colleagues. My frustration was off the charts yesterday and I nearly bit my tongue in half trying to be patient with him, but it’s getting tougher.

Question about Oofos…if any of you have the slides, do they stretch at all over the top? I usually wear a 7-7.5 but have wide feet, so even the 8 felt tight when I tried some on in a store. The 9 felt better but were a bit too long, which might actually be okay just to wear around the house. I will probably end up ordering them online since the store didn’t have the color I want.

I buy my Oofos flip flops at a shoe store that has tons of styles/colors, same price as DSW. Interestingly fit can vary on same style, different color.

What kind of store have you bought them at? Maybe a running/athletic store? I went to REI and they only had black and grey. I’ll have to see if there are any other stores in the area that carry them.

Local shoe store, with a few racks of Oofos

Simply rolling washed garments in a rolled dry towel and squeezing it will be enough to get clothes nearly dry and not dripping water. I’ve never put towels on floor but things dry overnight after being toweled.

I do not know about Oofos, but I have a wide forefoot and I have the Hoka slides that fit comfortably in my usual size.

I also have the Hoka slides and they are plenty wide. My sister tried the Hoka slides and they were way too wide for her narrow foot. I’m a medium but like a wide toe box and I find the Hoka a comfortable fit. They are nicely cushioned and have arch support.
