The Random Questions thread

Have already called drug stores, minute clinics, etc. none have a clear answer @HImom.

And I haven’t found a place with a waiting list to get on, @VaBluebird.

Are you all talking about the first shot or the second? It’s a two-shot series.

I’m with everyone about the Shingrex shot. None of the pharmacies around here have it in stock…but they claim the supply will be more available mid-November.

@VeryHappy I’m talking about the first shot… it ftrankly…I’m worried I’ll get the first shot and won’t be able to get the second when the time comes.

Also, can’t go to Target (where they had it) because BC/BS doesn’t view pharmacists as “health care providers” so they won’t cover there. To me…that is really BS.

I am with @thumper1 on both points - haven’t started the 2 part series, and have BCBS so need a clinic. Was hoping I could get it at my physical, but they didn’t have it.

My drug plan wants Cvs, but they didn’t have th first shot. Walgreens did, so I paid the fee. Now no one has the second hot. Ridiculous. Should be a class action suit.

from the CDC-- Due to high levels of demand for GSK’s Shingrix vaccine, GSK has implemented order limits and providers have experienced shipping delays. It is anticipated these order limits and shipping delays will continue throughout 2018. In response, GSK has increased the US supply available for 2018 and plans to release doses to all customer types on a consistent and predictable schedule for the rest of 2018. Overall, the supply of Shingrix during 2018 is sufficient to support the vaccination of more patients during 2018 than were vaccinated against shingles during 2017. Updated June 2018

Well, that’s misleading. It was only approved in late October of 2017!!

Here’s the website that IDs the places where Shingrix is offered.

https://www.shingrix.com/shingles-vaccine-locator.html

It gives many locations but you still have to call each to see if the vaccine is actually in stock. What an irritating waste of time!

@thumper1 Are you sure BCBS won’t cover getting a shot from a pharmacy? Or perhaps only if in network and maybe Target is oon? I know there are many BCBS versions but I’ve had 2 that did cover shots at a pharmacy.

BCBS will cover at a Minute Clinic where a nurse or nurse practitioner is giving the shots…but not where a pharmacist is giving it. That is what my plan admin told,me…and that’s what Target told me.

Mine is a swanky Medicare Advantage PPO. It’s weird because Target would take regular Medicare…but not this BC/BS plan.

Whatever.

And CVS around here is totally out of the Shingrex.

My pharmacist at CVS said probably no Shingrex till January.

That’s odd. Our BCBS covers us getting he vaccine from anywhere—Safeway, Costco, md, wherever we get it, it is covered. They don’t distinguish under our plan whether it was administered by MD, pharmacist or the aprn. All leave me with no copay. That’s both private insurance (me) and Medicare (my folks and H).

I have never tried getting a vaccine at Kaiswr HMO and believe since that’s out of network it may not be covered as well so I’d have a higher copay.

Has anyone ever bought accident insurance? It’s very odd but our insurer sent us a brochure on buying an accident insurance policy (along with info about our 2019 group medical plan).

It seems you’re paying one more premium for really not much benefit. I personally don’t get why it’s a good idea for the beneficiaries. Our medical plan is already great—don’t believe we need more. I’ve read commissions are really high for these policies—guess they’re highly profitable for insurers and our insurer is trying to cone up with more ways to increase their profits.

We get those accident insurance solicitations all,the time…they get shredded. So many restrictions…and very little in actual benefit.

Regarding vaccines at pharmacy vs clinic. We have the same issue. If I get my flu vaccine at Minute Clonic or a doctor’s office it is fully paid for, If I get it at Walgreens or other pharmacy counter it is considered a prescription and our prescription copay applies.

I discovered this one year when I didn’t want to wait at the CVS Minute Clinic and went across the street to the Walgreens. When I asked why they were charging me she explained it’s considered a drug expense. Lesson learned.

@ClaremontMom I would gladly pay my RX copay. That was not given to me as an option at Target. They either bill medical…or you go elsewhere.

I just think it’s weird that they don’t cover the flu shot regardless of who administers it.

I got mine last week at my PCP office. At least it’s done.

I recall a while back they charged a copay at Walgreens whereas if we got it anywhere else, there was no copay. Walgreens was one of the few who had the vaccine in stock tho. Ask before getting your shot to avoid surprises and make informed choices.

Circling back to say thank you for the ideas about the recipe cards. Staples copied them and folks were so happy to have MiL’s handwritten recipe and a wrapped sample. I protected them with clear plastic sleeves. Much appreciation!

Maybe it’s because it’s his second one.
