As a supporter of all things French, I remember following Gael’s accomplishment in the Juniors. In 2004 (I think), he won the AO, FO and Wimbledon. At that point, he seemed like the next great one. Unfortunately, he often seems to fall short. Still, I want a Djokovic vs Federer final. That would make for another classic, like Wimbledon…hopefully with similar outcome! ;)

I think that Fed’s dad is the cutest thing ever. He just looks like a nice guy.

^^ Yes. He reminds me of Geppetto from Pinocchio.

I was home for lunch watching the Wozniaki vs Peng match and Peng started to cramp. She was off the court 10 minutes and came back without a penalty. Eventually she retired. I am not complaining, but I was at the match last week when Steve Johnson was writhing in pain on the court, while he was writhing in pain the umpire kept saying “time violation”, “point”, etc… and within 3 minutes he had lost the last few points in the game they were playing and then soon there after the next game. I am wondering why there was such a huge difference in the way it was handled. Do you think it is ATP vs WTA or just a more compassionate umpire?

tx5, no idea why it was treated differently - except perhaps because it was being broadcast all over the world and ITF/USTA didn’t want to look bad.

Rule is on pg. 17

Serena was awesome today. I am glad Caroline made the finals; although, it wasnt a great sight to see. Caroline still deserved it.

I was totally baffled by the handling of Peng’s health issue. Per the rules Steve Johnson’s cramping issue was handled correctly. Cramps are treated differently than injuries…They are regarded as a “loss of condition”. If that was what was going on with Peng (and it certainly looked like at least part of the issue) they should have proceeded through the code violation steps as they did with Stevie. I assume they were treating her for heat illness which would be seen as a medical issue…although it doesn’t explain the VERY long medical time out. It also seems absolutely unconscionable that they allowed her to attempt to play again if she was displaying serious signs of heat illness…That’s a dangerous thing. I hope she is ok.

When interviewed after the match, the tournament director said that Peng had heat illness. That may explain the medical timeout but not the amount of time given her or the fact they let her go back out on the court. Someone wouldn’t recover from heat illness in a matter of minutes.

^ That is a CYA story. Those were cramps if I ever saw them. Peng made a few mistakes making them worse - first, she sat down on the change over at 3-4 and she iced her thigh.

Rank who is your favorite GSC coach in the semi’s?

For the four my rank is lovely Stefan, Goran (even though I have never forgiven him for beating Pat in Wimby final,) Becker (despite the broom closet incident) and Chang (who I never liked because of the thanking Jesus for winning after every match.)

.

Olderer.
But I like Marin so it’s all good. Spectacular serving & returning.

Very very happy Djoker not in the final and should be fun watching two new boys battle it out. Been a very long time.

CBS just puked.

It is Goran or Chang now.

Well, crap. I was hoping for another great comeback. :((

I am bummed that Fed lost but have to admit Cilic looked very good.

Well, there went all my interest in watching the Men’s Final.

Goran>Chang.

Gosh. I think it’s exciting have two new faces in a final.

But I no longer care who wins. It’s a big ho-hum. That’s why dstark said CBS just puked. Ratings will be low.

Too bad for CBS but this is their last year anyway broadcasting USO. I am sure they will survive the low ratings.

Adje Marin!

!!! I had a dream last night that Federer lost, which is strange enough in itself, but was mildly surprised to see that Djokovic lost, too…Nishikori feels like a man on a mission to me, but I haven’t seen any Cilic matches. emilybee, is this the beginning of the changing of the guard, do you think?
