The Tennis Thread

Tired, I figured you’d enjoy it!

This is about tennis.

http://www.si.com/tennis/2014/10/18/wta-finals-maria-sharapova-serena-williams-twitter-instagram

Yeah right.

I actually have been watching gobs of tennis the last few weeks. I love the Asian swing and TC has done a great job showing all the matches from all the tourneys.

Goaterer was spectacular taking our F*vich in the semi of Shanghai. S&V and chipping & charging. Tennis at it’s finest, imo.

Unbelievably, he actually has a chance to end the season as #1.

If Federer ends up number 1, that would be amazing. Very cool that he is serving and volleying so much.

It was a delight to watch, for sure. Funny thing is he was down 5 match points in the 3rd set in his first match to Leo Mayer and won it on his first match point in the breaker. He was down 2 mp in the 4-5 game and down 3 mp in the breaker, too - Mayer lead by 5-2 in the tb at one point.

It was a cracker of a match!

Quite the week so far at YEC.

Very happy for Sunshine and Simona.

Petra was a hot mess in her match against Aga and Genie is just downright awful. There is no way she will be able to defend all her points next year. I think everyone is on to her now.

Sunshine’s NYC Marathon time 3:26:33. Very impressive!!

Awesome!

YEC

Day 3 and still not one competitive singles match. I don’t recall ever seeing so many 6-1 sets at the YEC!

Some good doubles, though, from the bits I saw.

Two more yawners, today. Straight sets, not competitive at all. One more 6-1 set and a 6-0 set to add the total of dismal set scores in this tourney.

I can’t believe I am going to say this…but the women’s YEC was heads and shoulders above the men’s. shoot me now

Bummer!

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/federer-doubt-davis-cup-final-says-djokovic-213147761--ten.html

Yup. :frowning:

What’s amazing is that he’s only withdrawn 3 other times in his whole career and has never retired during a match!

He said it started bothering him in the TB against Stan. I have a bad back and when it goes into spasm it can take a week or more to get better and that is with muscle relaxers, anti- inflams, heat and ice, stretching, etc. When I’m playing it often starts aching and tightening up, too.

Federer is human. He has been battling back problems for a few years?

Emilybee, how good a tennis player are you?

He had bad back in 2013 but has been ok this year until now.

I’m a 3.0. I only play doubles now.

Hard to escape from aging and injuries for pros and amateurs alike.

You should see my game. We look like the walking wounded. :frowning:

Congratulations to Team Switzerland on becoming DC 2014 Champions! Another title which was missing can now added to Roger’s long list of accomplishments.

Bumping for start of Aussie summer swing.

@Tiredofsnow‌ - are you going to Hopman Cup this year? Looks like a beautiful day there - warm and sunny. I’m pea green.

It’s more than warm, emilybee - high of 41 today (106?). My son is going tonight, we are going on Wed. and Thurs. evening and then to the final on Saturday. Was just thinking I should check to see if Serena’s playing right now (and if the roof of the arena is closed). If you see a picture of her in Kings Park with a koala, she was very close to my apartment! We live just on the other side of the park. Wish I’d known, I would have gone to stalk her.

I think we are going to see the US vs. the Czech Republic, and then Australia v. France (which was more exciting when Tsonga and Nick K. were scheduled to play). I’m kind of hoping Poland makes it to the final because I really like Radwanska. And I’m excited to see Serena play; never got to see the ladies play in Dubai or Houston. I’m really glad she decided to show up. I think my son will get to see Andy Murray tonight.

They zoom in over the water to the city in the opening shot. It looks so beautiful but they don’t seem to show much else of Perth during the tourney. :frowning:

The roof was open yesterday, but at least the people in the stands are in all shade. I’m watching Can/CZE right now- TC always broadcasts HC on tape delay the first few days - which is so silly when there are live matches going on.

I didn’t see any Serena pics - just Bouchard on the beach.

I like Aga, too. I can relate to the way she plays more so then the big hitters. I heard she hired Martina N as a coach.

Have a fantastic week at the tennis. I’m sure you’ll see some exciting matches.
