Not a fan of the Adidas zebra look. Although admit that Ana looks great as always. I feel bad for Vika. She had been playing great. I hope the knee is not too serious.
The marketing gurus at these sportswear corporates every now and then like to outfit their players in eye-catching garb-age. It gets people talking and mentioning the brand. Same thing with the “identical kit” phenomenon. I guess the small amount of negative press/opinion is worth the attention to their brand. Perhaps it’s only the very top players that have the power to add the “You’re not going to make me look like a fool” clause into their contracts. Some horrid design out there.
There is definitely a pecking order - there are the stars, who have their own lines and then there are the minions.
But back to the matches - very ho-hum on the men’s side even in the 5 setter - just knew Jo was not going to lose despite being down 0-2. But Cornet/Maria was quite the dramarama. It had everything - cramps, tears, mysteriously long medical evaluations, then running like a gazelle during points; topped off by pointed fingers and pointedly nasty words at end of match by Maria after Aliza celebrated like she just one the tourney. And they have to play each other tomorrow in doubles!
And very nice win by the waitress after almost choking from 5-0 up in 2nd set after Genie choked away her 4-1 lead in first set.
Radwanska up a set and 3-Love, point for 4-Love, loses that point then the next 5 games, rights the ship, then goes down in the breaker. Another episode of the Young and the Rudderless over there on the women’s side. Same with Euphegenia’s match. High drama. And wow, there was enough slicing in that Aggy-Stirfry match to make Bill the Butcher proud.
That is too bad. But given the way he was playing this clay season, it is clear that Nadal is back and has a lot to look forward to once his wrist has healed.
Well…it’s not going according to my dream. Pah.
And sad, but I think it’s time to stick a fork in him.
“Another episode of the Young and the Rudderless over there on the women’s side.”
Nothing topped the ****fest that was Petra today. How in the world does a two time Wimby champion lose two sets 0&0 to a nobody ranked 100 something?!?
MOTD FerV/Kei match - even though lovely Fernando lost. But good fight from both and at least he didn’t lose to some mug.
GrandBudapest, I don’t see how it was meant to be easy. Berdych or Ferrer in the QF, Nadal in the SM and either Wawrinka or Murray in the final. That’s a pretty standard path to most majors. Given how Nadal was playing, it was impossible to predict he would withdraw with an injury.
This is not a weak era, we have just been spoiled with three champions that are, arguably, the best players of all time. Guys like Murray, Wawrinka, Nishikori, Berdych, Ferrer, Tsonga, Raonic etc…are as good a 4-10 bunch as any. But Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are quite possibly the most dominant 1-3 of all time.
