I think citing wikipedia ought to get it shut down. :D

Whoops, I just realized that eastcoast stated he was not interested in my answer. So ignore my last post, eastcoast. Sorry to inconvenience you as the “wrong” source.

I will write some good things about Texas in Wikipedia. It will help target the right people to be repelled by Texas.

"I don’t know. The first time the burglar ran away when my girlfriend yelled - and ince I didn’t shoot out the tires on his car and try to shoot him when he was trapped, there was really no reason for him to pull out a 9 mm and shoot me. The second time the robber who knocked my wife down after chasing her up our driveway started running when he heard me chasing after him. Whether he or his wheelman had guns or not remains unknown.

Incidentally, my neighbor, who had many guns, explained that if my wife had yelled “Help” he would have shot the guy. Since my wife was screaming loud enough to wake the dead I found that to be an interesting comment. I have no doubt that he would have reported that as a defensive gun use if he’s been surveyed - he was like that."

Gosh, where do you live? I live in NY and I don’t even lock my doors!

@texaspg: Please tell us when you have it done. I actually like Texas and might consider moving there someday–at least, until you communicate the scary code messages that will keep people like me from even visiting. :)

I have really bad news for you. The other 49 states really don’t think about Texas as much as Texans would like to think we do. You’re just another state.

They’re coming for you Tex. First they make south by southwest the hot scene, and they start to slowly trickle in and take things over. You’ll see. It can happen anywhere. :p

Bay, thanks for your response. Its that “you better be sure you are right about it and can prove it” part that gives many people pause.

Not that the "good guy’s intentions aren’t coming from the right place, but that the necessary cool self control in the face of chaos may be lacking. The police train for this and they sometimes get it wrong. Why would we believe that a citizen without similar training would do as well?

Maybe you should have noticed the fact that I didn’t bring up abortion, I merely responded to someone else who brought it up.

First off, wikipeida isn’t a source, it’s a medium that is compiled using actual sources. Just like the case is with the news. If you scroll to the bottom of any page in Wikipedia, there you will find the sources. The more you know.

“They’re coming for you Tex. First they make south by southwest the hot scene, and they start to slowly trickle in and take things over. You’ll see. It can happen anywhere.”

LOL!

Sorry, but this is actually how it went down:

Did I say a single word about babies?

Well, that’s the thing. With my uncle, he shot the guy because the guy was going into his daughter’s room. The guy broke into the house and the house was isolated. he was wealthy.

The thing is, after he shot the guy, he realized it was a kid he’d hired on occasion to do odd jobs. The kid had nothing, came from nothing, and had horrible family life, but he was “harmless.”

In the end, my uncle regretted shooting him, deeply. He became very religious, actually, after that. Not creepy religious, just “I can’t believe I took another life,” and I need to do something about it. He did a lot of good works after that. But, he never felt better about it.

The sad thing is, he really was one of the “good guys.”

That’s the other thing about this gun stuff. shooting someone is really traumatizing. People don’t generally go around bragging about it. and, in fact, I’d be surprised if a large number of them didn’t really regret it afterwards. Now, that might be an interesting study.

“The other 49 states really don’t think about Texas as much as Texans would like to think we do. You’re just another state”

I do prefer it that way - especially the Chicago ones. We don’t need the crime here.

Of course, nobody should be shooting any intruder because they could be “harmless kids”. Now I know if I see a 6 foot 300 pound man wearing a ski mask in my house, I know to bend over for him and accept my fate because I would regret protecting myself. Thanks for the advice.

Well, now we’re talking about how frequent it is that people defend themselves or their families with guns, versus how frequent it is that guns are involved in bad accidents, etc. No one on this thread has raised a hand to say they had in fact defended themselves or someone else with a gun.

However, no one has yet asked the corollary question, so I will answer it anyway. I do know someone who was shot by accident, by a gun enthusiast who grew up on a farm, had owned and used guns his whole life, and knew how to handle them. But he shot someone by accident anyway. Accidents happen with anything, it’s just that guns are just so much more dangerous, and sometimes people get careless, with very bad results.

Luckily, the doctors pulled me through. :)

Bl4ke, I think you have been watching too much TV.

I’ve been shot by someone with a rifle when I was entering my car in LA, go figure it happened in a city with high gun control.

PG,
Really. You need to stop insulting where other people live. It makes you look petty. You don’t speak for 49 states. I know a lot of people who don’t live in Texas who love Texas.

Good for you Hayden!
