overachiever- lets be mccormick buds!

@nanaboom

The admission committee has concluded its evaluation of Early Decision applicants to Northwestern University. I am writing to let you know that we are deferring a final decision on your application until the spring.

ooh…okay…even more depressing…denied…okay…thanks…goodluckkkk

I got deferred too. Don’t really know what to think of this seeing as NW only defers like 50 kids. What exactly am I supposed to do/show Northwestern? Not really happy with this.

accepted! See you all there :]

They mostly defer kids when they need to see the first semester grades to make their decision. This usually happens when it’s the kids first time in AP/IB courses … or having a multitude of AP/IB courses. Usually half of the deferred students end up being accepted. Does that sound like you @ender235?

Not really. I took 4 AP classes last year and got 5’s on all of them. I’m taking 5 AP classes this year. School doesn’t offer IB courses so can’t take those. Any idea what I’m supposed to add to supplement my resume for them/should I give up on Northwestern if I got deferred?

I GOT IN!!! Medill class of 2014!!! Congrats to all, see you there!

My deferral is mos def about grades. I’m feeling surprisingly well.

Good luck to all you guys who haven’t heard yet!

@bandie124, what are you majoring in?

Hey @ender, send me your stats that people post on the acceptance page and I’ll try to figure out what was different about yours so that you can hopefully change it, mmkay? message me.

I got in!! I’m so excited! I gotta go find a sweatshirt now…

So what should I do about being deferred? Is it appropriate to call them and ask what I can do?

@cclolzftw I read a really lengthy article and NU deferrals this afternoon, so if you send me your stats I might be able to help you?

telescoptical, can you provide a link to that article? Looking at a deferral here, too.

here’s the article I’m referring to when I talk about why students have been deferred:
[Northwestern admissions alters early decision policy » North by Northwestern](http://www.northbynorthwestern.com/2009/10/51246/northwestern-admissions-alters-early-decision-policy/)

here I’ll c+p the important stuff because some of it is unnecessary:
Most of this important information was mid-senior year grades – particularly if it was the applicant’s first time in Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other advanced classes.

…

Of the 1712 students who applied early last year, approximately 60 students were deferred. Of those 60, roughly half were later accepted.

…

“The only reason you would be deferred is if we don’t feel we have enough information, most likely academic information, to render a final decision,” Watson said. “It’s pretty straightforward– no games or anything.”

This all came straight from an interview with the Dean of Undergrad Admission

I STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN A DECISION YET!!!
has any one who applied to SESP found out yet???

overachiever: right now im undecided, but im thinking biomed or chem
