The West is burning

I just read the story. What an idiot. 15 is old enough to know better. All this destruction of property, animal life, homes, livelihoods, natural beauty, because of the foolish, selfish actions of human beings. SMH…

That is despicable!

I spent time today chatting with our school resource officer about the difference between charging an individual as a juvenile vs adult. I want to charge the parents of these persons with financial responsibilities for the actions of their kids.

We were in Colorado over the summer and came upon the damage caused several years ago by 2 different wildfires. So sad to drive through that for miles and see how destructive it all was. Now, Denver is blanketed in smoke that is coming all the way from the Oregon fires. So sad…

You can always check your local air quality with this link. The map is pretty scary right now…

Just put in your zip code. And for BB, or anyone else who knows someone considering strong outdoor physical activity during the fires, make them read the health recommendations for your area.

Thanks

I could smell smoke inside my building at work today in Seattle. Ash particles were swirling in the air when I walked to my car. I ended up walking in the mall tonight for exercise because of the outdoor air quality.

I just hope no more fire alarms tonight… my eyes were watery all day today, but they seem to get better. Little BB does not like to listen to any such reasoning… my public health major. Sigh.

Wow, it sounds pretty bad. I hope there is some light rain (or even moderate rain) to help put out those fire and NO winds to fan them. I love the forests and am so sad they’re burning. :((

The wind must have changed and blew away some of the smoke. I can see the city lights blinking and the outlines of the buildings on the other side of the lake. This summer was brutal for folks with respiratory problems…

In summit county Colorado and haze has blanketed the area, but not certain if it’s from the northwest fires or fire in Steamboat springs.
Full moon looks orange at night.
Warnings in Denver over the weekend.

Strange that there isn’t any smoky smell at all!

Crazy, crazy disasters all over

The air quality is so bad in my daughter’s college town that not only are outdoor athletic practices canceled, but so are indoor. All athletic facilities are closed so that students and employees don’t engage in strenuous activities.

Yesterday we saw blue sky for the first time since the Eagle Creek fire started last week. It was uplifting.
The odor of smoke is gone and most of the haze. I have been told there is still green in the Gorge.

Rain! It’s raining on the coast of WA today, hopefully this helps with at least some of the fires

No rain yet in Seattle today but hopeful. It’s much cooler than its been but still sky has that weird yellow cast. Looks like rain is in the forecast for tomorrow.

I went hiking yesterday just west of Denver – we had to go above 10,000 feet for the air to clear a bit, but even at 12,000 feet there was that haze from the Montana/Oregon/California fires.

If it’s this bad this far away… our hearts are with you, fellow westerners.
