<p>It isn’t that large, but there is definitely a corps of dedicated students whose ambition is to have a career in theater, and who are moving in that direction. You can find them at the University Theater (along with the bio majors blowing off steam), in the TAPS major, working with theaters large and small around the city. Also doing film around the university, with Fire Escape Films.</p>
<p>If you poke around the various university websites, you’ll find lots of evidence of theatrical life. It’s not as spiffy and professional as at Northwestern, or Michigan, or Carnegie-Mellon (or USC or NYU-Tisch, etc.), and it isn’t as broad-based as at Yale, but it’s definitely there.</p>
<p>Note that the next big building on the agenda at Chicago, but probably not for a few years, is a new arts center with much better theatrical facilities. The UT facilities now are not so impressive.</p>
