That’s just what S and his friends did last year, and since it was during the week he needed a note the next day for school explaining why he’d been absent. Rather than lying and saying he was sick, I wrote the truth: “Phillies fever”. It was marked as an excused absence. :)

My h & I are Phils season ticket holders and have tickets to Game 3 at Citizens Bank Park. My brother is a Yankees season ticket holder and has tickets to game 6 (which he won’t get to see). This Sunday is my Mom’s 80th birthday celebration, so it should be an interesting conversation! Plus my s, who now lives in VA but will be in town for the party, is trying to talk me into giving him my game ticket! Ha!

Yeah- JHS, you are right. The 80s seems like awhile ago (espec to Philly fans).
I also grew up going to Connie Mack stadium with my grandfather. I’ll never forget Robin Roberts, my first baseball card. (I also had a full Eagles uniform at age 6- my grandfather REALLY wanted a son or grandson, and I had to fill the bill, which was fine with me!)

Booklady, you just described our household to a T. We have gradually become real Phillies fans over the years we’ve been here —but such a conflict of loyalties!

I’m the person wearing the stupid sweatshirt that says “I support BOSTON and whoever beats the Yankees.” Guess that puts me in the Phillies camp for this series.

OOOH! I must have missed this thread before! Muti-generational Yankee fans here. I don’t know what to expect - just so happy to watch some more Yankee baseball.
I was so glad they were rained out because I had tickets to Jersey Boys on Saturday!!

All you Yankee haters out there - jump on the bandwagon and root for the poor, losing-est team in America! Go Phillies! They’re going to need everyone’s help to match up with the Yankees pitching.

I saw them at Connie Mack
I saw them at the Vet, including a Series game in '80.
I love the new park and I love the new team (even the “new” Pedro).

They’re not an overpaid collection of egos like some other team I might name.

Another Phillies fan family here. I’m a little worried about my daughter living and teaching in NYC - she will have a hard time not making her preference so obvious. The Phillies farm team, The Iron Pigs, just started here in the Lehigh Valley a couple of years ago and their games are very popular. It’s fun to see the-stars-to-be in a small park before they graduate to the big time. We believe in a repeat!

I think the Phillies fans have taken over this thread!

Love the “Phillies Fever” excuse, BookLady! Do symptoms include seeing the Phanatic when you close your eyes? Harry Kalas will be missed, and remember Richie Ashburn–staples in my house growing up.

My daughter is teaching in New York, too – a few subway stops north of Yankee Stadium. Luckily, she doesn’t actually care about the Phillies much at all. Or the Yankees. But she doesn’t have any wrenching personal problems pretending to care about the Yankees out of respect for her students, who do.

It was definitely Cliff Lee’s night, even that behind the back catch! It’s unlikely that all games are going to be as easy as that one was, though, but, go Phillies!

On the surface, the Yankees look a little more impressive, but the World Series really separates the wheat from the chaff, the cheese from the whey, the men from the boys.

Go Phillies!!
Cliff Lee was amazing. LOVED his catches…both of them. So cool.
And Utley…wow.
I grew up in NY and was a Mets fan as a child. Been living in Philly for many years and have come over to their side. But my old loyalties make me absolutely despise the Yankees. Except for Derek Jeter. Class guy…just can’t dislike him.
