thesis to graduate

Wellesley requires a thesis for departmental honors.

Fine Arts majors at the School of Visual Arts in NYC must present a thesis to graduate.

I believe that Whitman has a thesis requirement. Carleton has comps which, depending on the department, may be a thesis or a research project. And Carleton has a writing portfolio requirement that must be submitted by the end of soph year.

Yes, I agree the pe requirement is a good thing. My S took strength training first semester (an 8 am class!) with the idea of learning how to use the equipment, and working out has been part of his routine ever since He definitely uses it to relieve stress.

Like many of the above, Brown requires a these to graduate with any level of honors (cum laude, summa cum, magna cum).

The OP is asking about NON Honors programs…all students. Not just Honors students.

I was just curious- I know US news has a list of schools that have “culminating projects”- ( and I think most high schools have some type of senior project)- it was more for dinner party conversation.

A friend who was apparently raised a Boston Brahmin and in the South, was quite adamant that a thesis required of everyone was quite de riguer in the finest schools ( ivies) of course I didn’t argue with him- me argue?
but I didn’t think that a common experience like Reed has- the hum110 for freshmen and the thesis for seniors ( as well as junior qual) was really that common.
I knew that many schools have honors etc and double degrees, etc- I was just merely wondering as to what schools had common experience for graduation.

( I really cannot fathom the level of intellect Mini must possess if he wasn’t impressed by the Reed senior theses- I have been impressed by the research papers that my D did in high school frankly, and while she isnt necessarily doing completely original research for her college senior thesis- I am quite confident that it is good work  )

I didn’t have an actual “senior thesis” but we did have senior projects… several of them. Most of which were done in a group of four. My last year featured three group projects each which ended up being 100-200 pages long… and these were VERY important projects where not only did we represent ourselves, but we represented our college as well. Imagine presenting to the Executives of Harley-Davidson or other huge companies what exactly is wrong with their corporation and steps they should do to fix it. We had to present our findings to our class, then we had to give the same presentation at the company in which we did our project on. We had CEO’s sitting there taking notes. It was just amazing.

Bates requires a thesis for almost all majors and in the viewbook it states that it is one of the few schools to do so along with Reed and Princeton.
