Thin Letter, now what?

and I’ll do it again and again and again until I’m 23 if I have to.

Krypter-

My son’s sentiments, exactly.

Preach it, Krypter!

I called Northwestern Prep today and talked to one of the directors. After looking at their web site and talking to a real person we’re pretty much sold on their program. My daughter will probably call next week and talk to them some, and if she’s convinced we’ll start the application process.

I won’t name the director I spoke to here, but their phone number is on the web-site. When I talked to her I was very pleased that she was very, very knowledgeable about the whole process, and could give me lots of success stories.

Thanks so much for the recomendation turningsignal. I sent you a private message.

Sounds like a good next step on the path to USNA for your dd. She’s top shelf, and here’s to seeing her in the Class of 2012. Keep us posted Cougar.

I had considered a prep school when initially rejected, but after talking to my BGO about it, he pretty much convinced me to do NROTC at a regular university.

Now, i’m in no way saying that your daughter will fail to secure the appointment the second time around, but consider this. The success rate is 98% or whatever they claim it to be…then there’s that 2%. If you don’t get the appointment after a year of prep school, then what? From what I understand, you can’t stay and earn a degree from there, and finding a university that accepts the credits may be hard to come by. You’d pretty much be back in the same position as you were the previous year.

Based on my personal experience, doing NROTC not only has a lot to offer, but if you should fail to get the appointment again, you’re still well on your way to a commission. Your daughter doesn’t even need the scholarship to be in the unit and NROTC would open up another nomination source.

But that’s just how I feel. Your daughter would be glad to get the ‘real college’ experience…I know I am.

On another note, we just finished our first Sea Trials practice…only 75 days!!!

Son had a NROTC scholarship and offers to prep schools from Navy and Air Force. Choose Northwestern Prep (in the Mountains of California)…A postive experience. No regrets

Now has an appointment offer from Air Force.

thats what happened to me, i wasnt accepted last year as a senor in highschool cause of my low gpa, 2.6… i reapplied a year later and i got in the prep school. perseverance is key.

Thanks WP, she’ll be making her decision soon and I’ll update everyone.

DMeix, thanks for the input. This is definitely one of the things she’s weighing. The NWP program is designed so you do the fall semester there and then go home and take a semester of college. She’ll probably do next Spring at Boise State if she goes through with this. Unfortunately they don’t have NROTC or the decision would probably go the other way.
