Things People Do That Are So Irritating!!

Everytime I go to a concert or show someone in front of me obstructs my view with big hair, hat, hoodie, etc…
Oh and people who put their seats back on long air flights (way back not just a little)

It’s probably been said, but cracking gum! Hate it. I remember asking a fellow student to stop doing it back in high school when taking a regents exam. I’m now close to retirement!

Knuckle cracking in a compulsive way just squicks me out. It seems to be a thing with kids nowadays and it just makes me wince when they’re sitting next to me in the computer lab cracking their fingers over and over and over again.

I give them a pen to click on and off instead. I can handle that noise…

People who pray before meal at a restaurant in a mixed company!

  1. When the person in the checkout line waits until the grocery clerk has completing scanning all products and tells her the total before she even begins to open her purse, get out her coupons and once they are scanned get her new total and only then does she get out her checkbook to start writing!

  2. people who do not return their grocery carts to the cart return or to the store but instead park it at the end of an open parking space or prop it up on a curb - you are lazy!

3of3, we’ve talked about the shopping carts. I came to realize why it can be hard for some people to return their cart. I happily took 2 carts into store, which I wouldn’t have done before reading this thread.

People who “like” their own facebook posts.

@jym626 I do that from time to time when the movie is boring, to decide to leave the movie theater or wait till it ends. I don’t see that so irritating. It’s brief and I don’t notice it if I am fixated on the screen. It happened while I watched The Lobster. It went on and on. I am glad I waited to see then ending. The ending was the only meaningful part of the movie.

@bookworm I didn’t read the entire thread but I did read the part about small children in the car as an excuse not to return the cart - I won’t give them a pass on that one, mom of 3 here and I’ve been able to return them, I do understand there are some times when there may be a valid reason(not just inconvenient), however I’ve also seen housewives with no kids in their tennis outfits driving a Hummer prop their car up on the grass island - I guess she was late for a match but had shooed the cart return was directly behind where she parked - those shoppers.

@igloo,
For the sake of others in the theater, please dont look at your phone screen in the movies. The glow from the screen is really quite distracting and can be seen by most all the rows behind you. I feel bad enough when I move my arm and my fitbit suddenly glows to show the time on its screen.

My biggest pet peeves are car related. Tailgating is the biggest. I’m sorry, but it I’m in the left lane passing someone, and you want to go 90, the answer to your frustration is not to crawl up my bumper and try to mate with my car. That puts both of us in danger and therefore I’m going to SLOW DOWN until you back off, get out of the lane, or until the speed we are traveling at is low enough that it’s safe for you to be 3 feet behind me (option 3 never happens because that speed would probably be about 10-15 mph). Makes me even madder when people drive too close in slippery conditions. Most often, it’s people in luxury cars who behave this way, which is also annoying.

Also hate being stuck near the idiot who put a $5000 speaker system in the car and is playing it so loudly that it makes my car shake and interferes with what I’m listening to. Do people understand that they will go deaf that way?

^^^ I have so many car-related pet peeves, too. This one just happened five minutes ago. I can’t stand when people make a left turn into the wrong side of a two-way street. The street I live on is a two-way without a dividing line, and unfortunately there is a big hedge at the end on the right-hand side that blocks your view of any car is making a left turn onto the street. That means it also blocks the turning cars view of any cars coming down the street, but as long as everybody stays on the correct side of the road that shouldn’t be a problem. Someone nearly hit me head-on a little while ago because I was approaching the end of the street and they came turning in on my side. I feel like the majority of people in my town, if forced to take a road test again, would fail within the first 45 seconds. Grrrrrr.

Cars generate as many irritating things as there are drivers:

1)left lane bandits, who drive the speed limit in the left lane and wonder why people get mad (yes, save all the ‘law is the law’, you can want to pass someone doing the speed limit because they are driving erratically, or are going the limit/slowing down/limit/slowing down in the right or middle lane, not to mention cops generally won’t pull someone over for doing less thant 10mph over the limit in most places).

2)Worse, the ma and pa kettle cars, who drive in lanes next to each other matching each other’s speed. Not talking in traffic, talking about on a relatively open highway people pacing each other

3)Yep, the SUV drivers (and to a certain extent AWD drivers in general) who don’t understand that is a safety feature, not something to allow you to drive fast as heck in bad conditions (I usually see this more with SUV and the larger crossover drivers, they seem most to assume they are immune from the laws of nature)

4)People who when making a turn off a busy road onto a side street literally stop, then make the turn (I am not talking a stop sign, or making a right turn on red). They cause a lot of traffic congestion on primary roads.

5)People who put on their turn signal half a mile from their exit, in the process confusing people behind them because there are several potential turn offs before they turn off.

6)The rice rocket drivers (small Japanese cars, tricked out) with the big, booming exhausts. Those systems don’t make the car go any faster (free flow systems improve performance because they are tuned to the engine), they are just some idiot who thinks it makes the car sound cool. Same with motorcyles with the really loud exhausts, just being a jerk to others.

Drivers who get on an on ramp and then just stop and wait for an opening rather than learning how to merge in.

People who are always late. Always. Makes me crazy. We have some family members who are never on time…if left to their own devices. We had to threaten to leave one behind at a hotel for DDs graduation if she was late. It’s probably the ONLY thing she has been on time for in her life.

And yes…this includes planes. Lots of missed flights and running through airports. Ridiculous.

@IBviolamom - I often wonder why town shouldn’t intervene and require the property owner whose hedges are visually obstructing the road and creating a hazard to remove them.

yes, ditto the people who are always late. And especially guests who arrive late to
for our dinner party. On couple we enjoy spending time with can be counted on arriving
up to 1.5 hours late or arriving .5 hours early. One large dinner party they waltzed in 1.5
hours late and I had just put the main dish on the table. Their entrance stopped everything
and, once again, dinner was not as planned. Needles to say we no longer invite them when
we have others over which is their loss. If we are just waiting for them I can plan accordingly.
My mother and sister both made me nuts running late while others waited and waited.

^^Then there’s the people who always come early, like my late in-laws. Drove me crazy!
Another thing that irritates me to no end: guests who insist on coming into the kitchen and “helping.” First off, my kitchen is small and there really isn’t room for anyone else to work in there. Secondly, they usually insist on telling you that you’re doing something “wrong” and why you should do it their way. In fairness, I grew up with extremely controlling parents so I’m hyper-sensitive to things like that, but it’s my house and I get to do what I want. If I wanted to be called out on every move I made, I would never have left home.

^^^Yes, the early arrivals. My in-laws do the same thing and as much as I try to get my mother-in-law to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers, it is a no go. She is often in the kitchen asking to help, trying to taste things that I am preparing, and asking for recipes. Super annoying when I am under pressure trying to finish before the scheduled time of the dinner.

I miss my old house where I did not have an open kitchen and was able to cook in peace.

Okay - another thing - people telling me what I should do or add to my house for their convenience or pleasure. I call this rule my “no unfunded mandates”. I would never in a million years tell someone else how to fix up their place, even my family, I’d appreciate the same consideration. I even had my cousins husband say many times - I know you said no unfunded mandates, but…and I’d just shut him down instantly. I told him if he put it in writing with a check I’d think about it.
