Many people use too much laundry detergent. My hubby keeps thinking he has to fill the washing machine dispenser up to the line but we use good quality detergent so it cleans best with about half that amount unless the load is exceptionally dirty, as in covered in mud. Pretty much every time he does a load I have to re-rinse the laundry to get the extra suds out. The same goes for fabric softener.

Decimate meaning to seriously damage or destroy is correct in modern English. Decimate meaning to destroy 1/10th of is correct in Latin.
So which is correct depends on which language you are speaking.
It’s similar for the word “virus.” In modern English virus means a microorganism that consists of a nucleic acid wrapped up in a protein coat that parasitizes living cells in order to replicate itself, often causing disease. In Latin virus means simply a poison.
I met up with a friend who had just read an article about things commonly used incorrectly. The only one I remember was seat covers for toilets. You know that little flap that falls into the bowl? It goes in the front. Not only did it change my usage from that point on but, very weirdly, I now think of that friend every time I use the restroom in a public place.

ps Grammar I don’t care so much about and haven’t felt inclined to clean up anything aside from anything “formal” I write. I’m perfectly ok with the evolution/devolution of language semantics too. I prefer it to thee and thine.
