Things to do & see--Indianapolis and SF in Oct

Yes, we have done all those wonderful things you’ve suggested in prior visits, but perhaps may re-do a few. Thanks for the suggestions.

Chicago is an easy drive from Indy and has incredible museums, food etc. Also Bloomington, IN (IU) is a neat college town and very pretty.

Another vote for children’s museum in Indy.

Boy I thought I was the only one who would recommend Columbus, Indiana! (Or New Harmony for that matter.)

In San Francisco, the obvious touristy things are great. I was just there and spent most of two days on my feet.

I very much enjoyed the SFMOMA (I particularly like their large collections of Clyfford Stills and Anselm Kiefer.)

I also highly recommend the free walking tours provided by City Guides. http://www.sfcityguides.org/ I’ve done Chinatown, the Japanese Tea Garden, and Rising Steel: 20th Century Downtown Architecture so far. The tours have been quite different in tone depending on who was leading them and their particular interests, but all very interesting. (The woman who led the Japanese Garden tour wasn’t that much of a plant identifier beyond the ones she knew for the tour, but was married to a Japanese-American and had a lot to share beyond the obvious.)

Also fun, though a bit silly was the Local Taste of the City Tour by Blandina who led us through North Beach/Little Italy last year.

If you are strictly interested in architecture and don’t like following tour guides around you can follow tours on your phone. https://www.sfheritage.org/walking-tours/
