Thinking about dropping out and joining the army?

I can understand why you might be upset with the Iraq War or some soldiers who have commited crimes against Iraqi citizens or other members of the US military. And I understand that you have a right to post this stuff.

However, I think this is completely uncalled for. Not every soldier is out to abuse another human’s rights. Many members of the military are putting their lives on the line and not asking for much in return. Whether or not they are actually protecting America from a foreign threat is debatable, but what is not debatable is that many of these men and women are heroes and deserve our respect. Respect that you aren’t giving them.

I’m not saying that the army as a whole is evil, just that there are enough bad apples to make it a terrible prospective job.

Oh.

10char

Where’s the contradiction there?

the Unabomber actually had a point… not that bombing was the correct way to go about and proving it but he was dead on with his tohughts in regards to this country, and how long ago did he do what he did… this country has gotten worse. but all that aside, thats ■■■■■■■■ to say that people from harvard are like that… jeeze that was one person. then again theyre all rich, so i wouldnt doubt plenty are crazy, regardless of what socio eco group your looking at your going to find a good degree of crazies, maybe even a matching ratio as others groups of lesser economic standing. but your point was kindof, well, not right.

this person is obnoxious and is insulting brave men in women in uniform who in a warzone environment manage to keep their cool every day.

Let’s keep political stuff out of this.

Who said anything about insulting good soldiers? I just said there aren’t enough to make up for the atrocities.

There are certainly a lot of those, see page 1.

Apparently not enough of them, considering that “these are the kind of people you’ll be around”. You’re caught in your stupid little argument, please just give up.

It was a reference to the widespread occurrences of rape, notice he slipped and said “in women” instead of “and women”.

Also why do you need to defend the military so much? What have they done for you?

^What did the firefighters on 9/11 do for you? What do inner-city teachers that could have taught at a private school do for you? The fact is that someone doesn’t have to do something for you for you to respect and defend them.

i have family in the military. this thread is extremely offensive and absolutely untrue.

quit ■■■■■■■■ levig.

They earned my respect through heroic deeds that didn’t involve shooting people.

Not ■■■■■■■■, sorry that your family has to deal with the crazies the military lets in, hopefully you’ll make the right decision and stay away.

you have no idea what you’re talking about. you read some articles about ****** bags in the military and now you think you know everything there is to know about the psyche of a soldier. not only are you taking those incidents out of context, but your making extremely broad generalizations that are catagorically untrue.

i dont know what your agenda here is, but it isn’t as altruistic as you’re trying to make it out to be, and we all know it. so quit ■■■■■■■■.

There’s no agenda besides providing this information to people thinking about the army. Fairness and balance.

you’re providing information that you’ve made yourself. its bias and it has an agenda. everyone’s heard about the story in the op and all the other really bad things. whats so offensive is the one sided, uncompromising spin you’re putting on it.

yes these people exist. no that is not what the army is all about, and no that is not the prevailing attitude amongst grunts.

No one should have to work alongside people like this. Until the army tightens its admissions standards to prevent these people from getting in, it’s not something I’d recommend joining.

thats better

With few exceptions, the Army serves as a glorified receptacle for our country’s waste.

Stop ■■■■■■■■. Just be happy the military fights for your right to say things like this.
