Thinking About Visiting Charlotte, NC - Need Recs

We had great cinnamon rolls this morning from Blue Ridge Bakery. Both it and Bracken Mountain bakery are right in town and phenomenal. For a fun soda shop type place, Rocky’s is great (and does breakfast now). Silvermont park is a lovely place to stroll and Moosetracks/Bullwinkle’s are great shopping. The Highland Book store is also lovely. We are focusing on indie shopping this trip for sure. Oh! If you have kids or are a kid at heart, definitely hit up O.P. Taylors. It’s amazing.

Word is this part of Pisgah forest also opened back up today, so Looking Glass Falls should be available for viewing. I hope you have a wonderful trip. This is one of our favorite parts of the world, and we are so glad to see recovery happening.

I wonder how many cinnamon buns I can eat in one day. Hopefully I’ll know soon.

Boone and Blowing Rock are open for visitors too.

Charlotte is fine for a suburban big city, but a non-affected mountain town could really use your tourist $$. My in-laws all live in Charlotte. I’d rather go to the mountains! We will be going up to Boone next weekend. (They have a house in Boone we need to check on again.)

When is the wedding?

The economic damage to small businesses from Helene is really worrisome. I would definitely plan on going to a mountain town at least for a day trip and spend some $$ and order stuff online. Folks that have major damage to their homes, or lost their loved ones, don’t need to lose their incomes too!

And just do a search on “visit” and the town name of other mountain towns you are considering.

This is a great resource for ordering online from Asheville businesses: Love Asheville from Afar

We’re flying into Raleigh on Monday 10/28, heading west on 10/30 and then to the wedding location on 11/1. We’re flying out of Asheville 11/3.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You might be able to go into Asheville then. Keep checking on the ExploreAsheville.com website. They are planning on kids being back in school by then.

Hendersonville next to Asheville did not get hit as hard. https://visithendersonvillenc.org/

Bryson City is another good spot to visit and close to the Smokies.

Boone and Blowing Rock will be closest to Raleigh, about 3 hrs away.

Second Bryson City. They weren’t damaged other than a little flooding downtown that has been repaired.

It has a charming, walkable downtown with the Smoky Mountain Railway, a large model railway museum, a fly fishing museum, and some decent shops. There are a couple of nice restaurants and a brewery. It’s more a working town than a tourist area. No WalMart, for example. There’s a very small boutique hotel on the main street and a charming rustic 1920’s inn overlooking the mountains and town.

Deep Creek in the GSM National park is about three miles away and has great hiking and the Nantahala Outdoor Center 12 miles away has float trips on the Nantahala River and a great riverside restaurant.
