This is going to be awkward for me...Please help though :)

Dear kiddo…sorry to read that you were denied. But I wanted to give you a different perspective in case you had your heart set on Pitt. I have two sons that will be attending there. One is a h.s. senior who had Pitt main as his one and only choice. Thankfully he was admitted but he applied early and had 1800+ SAT score and a 3.8 GPA. He received no scholarship offers or anything but did already send in his deposit.

But what I want to tell you is more about my other son who just got admitted to main after numerous attempts. He started out at a small college in central PA on a paetial athletic scholarship but really didn’t like it there. He really wanted to go to Pitt main but didn’t quite have the credentials to go there so he transferred to a branch campus (Johnstown) for a year and 1/2 with the hopes of going to main. He was thrilled to find out that he was accepted for Spring 2012 and is moving to Oakland on Jan 3.

I do not live too far from Bradford but can tell you that it is a good school with a nice campus if you can handle the climate. There are also a lot of athletic opportunities there if you are into sports that you might not get at main (I know someone who is going to swim there that would never get to do so at main).

The moral of the story is that main is within your grasp even if you don’t go there your first year. But it sounds like you have some real nice options so good luck. But apply again to main…there is nothing to lose by trying again.

btw…I am a Pitt grad too but I feel your pain. I can tell you that it was not even close to being as competitive back then as it is now. That is just a good sign of how great that school has become. So keep at it and good luck!
