Those experienced with IKEA

My son bought and assembled a drop leaf kitchen table from ikea. He isn’t the handiest person on the planet, but he had no trouble. It’s a cute table…has six little drawers in it. Nice extra storage.

We need an “IKEA stuff you recommend” thread.

Oy. I’d be so frustrated. You’d find me the next morning, balled up in a fetal position, with dried up black tear tracks going down my face, sucking my thumb, and clutching the allen wrench to my chest with my other hand. Total regressive meltdown.

My humanities kid, comp lit major bought everything from IKEA and put together everything from IKEA, her townhouse is a little bit like the IKEA show room model. Tiny space but very manageable. Some stuff from IKEA broke or will break if she were to move. There is some stuff at IKEA that you can’t break, for example, the sturdy bookcase that is impossible to break the way it’s made.

This is interesting. I don’t consider myself to be that capable, but I like stuff you have to put together, because its not only relaxing but its easy to customize it.
I also find illustrations to be clearer than written instructions, because the written instructions are often translated ( badly).

…or written instructions can have some ridiculous stuff in them, like the instructions for our Toto toilet seat recommended removing the old seat before installing the new one.

Mr B enjoys IKEA projects. He does bring out his power drill/screwdriver to speed up the process.

Thats a must.
I have a rechargable.

^Agree, D1 borrowed DH’s power tools. No help from DH ever.

But some Ikea pieces use those funky “cam locks” that you just poke in and tighten (a quarter turn on so?) So, not much real screwing. They attach to a small metal post between the two parts. (I can’t even describe it.)

Those are used to secure the frame (of a wardrobe, for example). Mr B loves those. If a project involves shelves, then inevitably a screwdriver is needed.
