dmd77 - When we were in the Aran Islands (Ireland), I was happily surprised how many locals wore Red Sox baseball caps. H found out that they all had relatives in Boston (duh, Irish) and the surrounding areas. It was actually quite neat to see that (being a Red Sox fan myself).

About ten years ago I bought a cheap Rutgers sweat****. It was a bargain --I couldn’'t pass it up, despite having no great love of the place. I wore it to a dance competition & took some good-natured grief from a few fellow alums who were ashamed about the football team.

I wear Notre Dame stuff despite only being a visitor to the campus, but a loyal subway alum. I routinely get positive comments & “Go Irish” shout outs. But I guess as ND gear is ubiquitous, & most who wear it are unlikely to have attended, I’m not seen as a braggart.

I’d rather see a woman wearing a Harvard t-shirt than one that says, “Who needs brains, when you have these.”

TO the OP - have you EVER worn a piece of logo clothing - for any reason - for your high school - your favorite sports team - a place you have visited?? Anything at all?? I guess there are some in the world who have a definite aversion to anything logo - that is cool - but for those of us who do wear it - it represents something to us - usually - sometimes not - sometimes it is just a shirt - or hat - or jacket - whatever - sometimes just a piece of clothing that means nothing at all - and that is cool too.

KELSMOM - guess we will have to be tacky together LOL

STICKERSHOCK - I completely agree with your last sentence - thank you

Oh, in Ireland, my kids have been asked, “What do you Notre Dame fans mean by the fighting Irish?” The questioners are relieved to hear the positive connotation.

I enjoy wearing a Smith College tee-shirt - I get LOTS of stares!

I’ve never figured out the Hollister thing. Has anyone ever BEEN to Hollister?

Fighting Quakers is an oxymoron:

Beat 'em, smash 'em
Beat 'em senseless,
Beat 'em til
You find consensus!

That is interesting … is that a school rule or just a school norm (in either case it’s very considerate).

Or the college students who have passed out alot of college logo wear to Katrina victims - and who gladly accepted it - when all was lost - and many wore it proudly to remember their helping hands when all was lost. Is there anything wrong with that?? Not at all.

Oh, kelsmom! I know nothing about Furman – even where it is – but the prospect of wearing an FU shirt with a straight face has just vaulted this college to the top of our “look at” list!!!

ROFL - I have seen an FSU shirt - with the S crossed out - of course I had to ask about it… the guy applied to both - but got rejected from FSU and accepted to FU - well - I could not stop laughing…

*I enjoy wearing a Smith College tee-shirt - I get LOTS of stares! *

Don’t they have male instructors?

One of my instructors wears a EDCC hort sweatshirt & he went to UW & University of Arizona I think. Both his kids go to UW.
One of Ds teachers in high school wore a Lawrenceville sweatshirt- his dad had taught there.

I wear Notre Dame stuff despite only being a visitor to the campus, but a loyal subway alum. I routinely get positive comments & “Go Irish” shout outs.
I remember Martin Sheen being very proud to wear Notre Dame sweatshirts in his role as POTUS on the West Wing & I expect he is even prouder to wear NUI-Galway sweatshirts in his current occupation as college sophomore

Do any of you remember Bill Cosby wearing university logo sweatshirts on the Bill Cosby Show?

At least people in your neck of the woods know that Smith is all female … let alone a college!

Fighting Quakers … the idea makes me laugh. I can imagine them smacking each other around with wet noodles.

BTW, FU is in SC. Great school, gorgeous campus, lots of sunshine, and funny shirts.

I remember the Cosby shirts. Tim Allen wore shirts from various MI schools on Home Improvement. We always got a kick out of that! H wears a great shirt from our alma mater: Kettering University Football. Undefeated since 1919. (The school, formerly General Motors Institute, has never had a football team)

Here’s some video about the Fighting Irish: [Video // University of Notre Dame](http://nd.edu/video/)

Fighting disesase. Fighting for human dignity. We are the Fighting Irish. It’s really not about bar fights!

It’s just a shirt (or mug, or sticker, or hat, etc.).

Sometimes one of my Ds will wear the shirt from the other D’s college and vice versa. My college D has even worn some of her old HS logo’d shirts - not an elite HS.

Meanwhile, I’ve worn college shirts my D’s have given me, I’ve worn shirts/jackets with my company’s logo on them, I’ve worn shirts with other company’s logos on them that I was given. If someone going to HYPS or Dayton CC sends me a free shirt I’ll wear that one too!

kelsmom,

I was thinking that maybe Tim Allen wore them too, but I couldn’t remember for sure. I’m glad you mentioned that.

(that’s a cute story about KU football! lol)

Why would you even have a college shirt in your closet if you hate them so much? Why buy one?

I wear shirts from my old mid-level State U and from D’s college (Harvard). And when D2 goes off to college I’ll wear shirts from whichever school she attends too. I wear them mostly when running in the park - because they are both comfy long-sleeve T-shirts of the style in which I like to run.

D herself has some H-wear, but she is far more likely to wear stuff with the name or logo of her House or a club she belongs to rather than the university. In any case, one thing to remember is that Harvard is a COLLEGE. Harvard people get to have school spirit too. They get to cheer at football games. They get to sing the fight song. They get to wear the shirt.

However, I do NOT wear shirts from W’s school even though it is also a prestigeous university, because I have no connection to it myself. In the few times anyone has ever commented on my wearing a Harvard shirt I always reply: “I don’t go to Harvard, but my money does.”

I don’t have any t’s or sweatshirts. My kids do…they are the ones who accomplished something by getting in .
I am no opposed to it, just don’t have any. I have the tuition bill instead .

I don’t have a problem with it, but I think it is pretty obnoxious to stack the college stickers of all of what I assume to be your kids schools all over the back window of your car… particularly if they are all ivies and other top schools.
I never had the " honor roll " stickers on the car either. There is such a thing as being humble and discreet , rather than bragging to the cars driving behing you about how fabulous your kids are.

I actually like the college stickers on cars. I don’t consider it bragging at all. I started a conversation one time in a parking lot with a woman whose van had a sticker from a particular college that I really thought was a cool place. Things like that make the world seem a bit smaller & friendlier. I guess it’s all in how you look at it.

I like the college stickers too, especially when it’s an unusual one to see in these parts. I see it and start to wonder how it was that the car’s owner ended up at that particular school, or how they happened to move here.
