Thread for those who failed to submit their apps on time...

Well, they’ve just downloaded it… only the red graphic for the payment’s still there. Whoopeeee.

Just to be clear that wasn’t directed towards you; it was a statement directed towards students in general for all schools in general.

But I agree with you; January 1 is a terrible deadline date - I’ve always wondered why so many schools make the deadline freaking NEW YEAR’S DAY. Oh well. Who am I to speculate what goes on in the magical realm of admissions world :)

It’s called schadenfreude.

We encountered the same problem with Stanford. They didn’t accept the Common App submission because of a problem with their payment system. We tried paying twice with a credit card and then submitted an online check, which allowed the Common App submission to go through to Stanford. It cost us $270!!! $90 x 3!!! It was a harrowing hour of trying to get the application submitted. Stanford is aware of the problem. They will refund us the extra $$$. There is another thread about this in the Stanford section. Look for the “Stanford Urgent” thread posted on December 31. I don’t know if they will accept your application, even though it is due to some technical problem between Stanford and the Common App. I believe this is the discrepancy that created a problem for those 1000 applicants. It seems a bit mean spirited to me, especially since they are aware of the problem.

does anyone know for sure what some of these top ranked school’s policy is for those who turned their apps in late…because it seems like people are guessing that they will not accept them or they don’t care if its a few minutes late…but does anyone know of people in the past who have turned them in late and got in or something for sure?

also, i know someone has asked this, but for those that DON’T accept late, does it just not “download” or what…in other words if it says downloaded does that mean they’ll consider it or no?
and also, if they don’t accept it, do they let you knwo its because you were late, or do they just pretend to consider it and flat out reject you…?

I had trouble downloading my art supplement, burning the CD to be exact (I dance). So I could not mail it out by the 31st, all mail offices near me were closed Jan 1st so I mailed it out 10 min after my post office opened on Jan 2. One day late!! Princeton says that all art supplements must be postmarked by the 1st…I already sent in my common app and all other components beginning of Nov. I spend so much time dancing, it’s what i was banking on to ‘set me apart’ - I also marked on my common app that I was mailing an art supp.

Basically, will they throw out my whole app because I postmarked my art supp a day late? It’s guaranteed to get there on Mon Jan 4, but I heard they just throw out any app with a wrong postmark date. IM FREAKING OUT, despite not being able to do anything about it now…

Yeah, I asked that question as well in post #76. It seems no one knows…

Stanford deadline extended?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/842042-i-dont-believe-deadline-extended.html

I was just thinking the other day how stupid college application due dates are – my ED application was due November 1st; my RD applications were largely due on New Year’s Day. I think it’s the application system’s way of discouraging students from having too much fun on either Halloween or New Year’s Eve. :(

Alright; we’re on the same page. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Lol, you would think that we would have come to understand something about college admissions at this point, but clearly not!

lol guys, I submitted my Texas A&M application w/the scholarship app on Nov. 23/

But I go to a huge school and my counselor got his stuff in on Dec. 4

The deadline for scholarship consideration is Dec. 1

I called them and they said NO CHANCE.

This really isn’t fair, my counselor said he would call them, but I doubt it will make any difference.

I am sure that I would have gotten a scholarship from them too.

azzajack…that is BAD indeed. When it wasn’t even your fault! You can’t sit behind your teachers with a whip. My D had this happen, and it WAS for a scholarship application (it was for ALL the selective scholarships at this school, and she stands a huge chance of getting some). This school gave teachers only 2 weeks! If a holiday was included…too bad. So, let’s say a person sent their application Nov 23 (like you!)…and maybe the school starts Thanksgiving break the next day (I know some who have Wed), then the teacher won’t even GET the e-mail inviting him/her to send a rec for 6 of the 14 days! So my D’s teacher tried to send her rec iin (on a Sunday night…God Bless her!)…but it was late, she didn’t realize the deadline was so soon. She also offered to call, apologize (like yours). But I got on the phone with them the next day myself and this school DID extend the deadline because of their short timeline, it was happening too often. I REALLY feel for you! For us…these scholarships are the ONLY way my D would even consider staying at an in-state, and they know this, that’s why they offer them. To keep the cream of the crop…down on the farm. I feel terrible for you. This deadline could have resulted in as much as a $50,000 ish loss for my D over 4 years. I feel terrible for you. This is NOT the same as a kid who just procrastinated, this is out of your hands (up to a certain point…I mean I did tell my D she should have followed up…BUT…still, what are you going to do? Ask another teacher the day before it’s due…if they’ll send one instead? Yes, but…that’s SURELY not what the colleges want to be the answer). And some colleges don’t even have websites where you CAN see who has sent what.

“I was just thinking the other day how stupid college application due dates are – my ED application was due November 1st; my RD applications were largely due on New Year’s Day.
A deadline does not mean “everyone please send in your applications ON this day”. A deadline is THE LAST POSSIBLE date on which we’ll accept this item. I run into this every week at my office. No matter how many times you try to convince the ADULTS I work with, that it’s NOT optimum to wait until the last minute…they still do it anyway. People WILL stretch anything you offer. “Give 'em an inch…” So deadlines MUST be set, and adhered to.

If they made it 12/15 - just that much earlier and you’re in finals. If they made it 1/15 - NO ONE would turn it in before 1/1 and they’d be hard pressed to get 20,000 applications read. So they make it the end of your break, so YOU choose. Do it early and relax, or do it over the relaxing break, or wait until the end and stress.

Hey guys…I submitted UPenn, Yale and Stanford minutes after the deadline…(I am an international student from Nigeria). I checked the status of my common application today and it showed that they had downloaded the application and supplement…Does that mean that I have been pardoned?

@ djgemma: Stanford extended its deadline to the 3rd and Yale accepts apps until the 4th (though I beleive they’re considered late). So you’ll be fine with those two. I don’t know about UPenn.

Thank you for the sympathy, my counselor is contacting them, so there still might be hope

I had my Tulane and New Haven EA apps all ready to send off one Thursday during school to reach a deadline on the following Sunday. Thought I had plenty of time. Their deadlines are postmark by dates, and though there’d be no one to mail them on Sunday, they’d at least be postmarked on time.

Then a Nor’easter hit my city. School was canceled for 2 days. I had to wait till Monday to send them off. I emailed both that Friday, and luckily they both extended the deadline. (New Haven was going to do it anyway.)

I applied on time but forgot the SAT Subject test requirement. Now I have no idea what to do and not sure whether or not I can still send the score in and still be considered…

Hopefully, the school won’t make me withdraw or reject me because of this reason

Hey,
I submitted my Colby app. a few hours late and the supplemental part of my Grinnell app. a few minutes late. What will happen with my apps for these two colleges? My Colby lateness was due to factors beyond my control, and i wrote the admission to tell them this. any help?

I didn’t submit any of my Common App apps (Brown, Williams College, Penn, and Chicago) late, (although a couple were submitted early in the mornings on their deadline), but I am not sending my art and writing supplements until today, because the post office was closed. Do you think my materials will still be considered if they’re postmarked 1/4/10 or 1/5/10? Will they simply be thrown out, or will admissions officers look negatively at my whole application? I hope at the worst, they just don’t look at it. Anyone know?? (by the way, I’m not majoring in art, so the supplement isn’t VERY important)
