Such an incredible loss. My condolences to friends and families of these kids. Also to the Carleton Community on this forum.

So horribly sad. My son is currently in a car with a group driving back to Chicago from an Ultimate tournament in Cincinatti. I guess the weather is getting dicey and they were all so shaken up by this tragedy that they just made the wise decision to pull over and spend the night in a hotel in Indiana. He said that the Carleton players were on their way to a tournament in California.

I’m glad the young folks opted to spend the night in the hotel, wise move. It is so sad when there are deaths, especially young people who had so much to look forward to. If this helps other make more cautious, careful choices (like your S and his friends), that is some good flowing from this tragedy.

I’m sure you and the other parents will sleep better tonight, knowing your boys are safely in a hotel instead of our on treacherous roads.

These kids were indeed on their way to the MSP airport to catch a flight to the Stanford Invitational. All the other Carleton teams due to play that were already in Cal returned home. A memorial service was held on campus today.

Irony in that their icy route may have come from avoiding the main hwy, I 35, which had 2 hours earlier been the site of a 50 car pile up just a few miles farther north.

Incomprehensible tragedy.

How very sad. Prayers for all involved.

One of the kids killed was the brother of one of S2’s HS friends. We know the family – they are wonderful people. This is horrible.

Sunday morning TV update says driver has been updated to satisfactory, but other passenger still listed as serious.

Awful. Can’t imagine how the kids that survived are feeling. D’s best friend from high school is at Carleton and was good friends with one of the kids that died. D and another friend spent the better part of Sunday talking to her on the phone. D called and told me yesterday - just told her to be there for her friend.

The memorial service for the kid from my town is this Thursday at 4:00 PM. I plan to attend – I know the family – but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.

Oh boy.

Harrowing, huh? :(

Harrowing, and uplifting. It’s a remarkable family and he was a remarkable kid, but still. The church was SRO. The remaining Carleton Ultimate Frisbee team came, and will also be attending the other two funerals. They looked a bit worse for wear. Just so, so sad.

A friend just posted a picture on Facebook showing every student mailbox at Carleton containing a white rose in it. What a lovely show of support for the students.

It may seem foolish but I am glad for the families that the investigation revealed that they were all wearing seatbelts and that neither alcohol nor excessive speed was involved. Horrible as it is to lose a child, they are at least spared the regrets and thoughts that go along with those things. So very sad. I read his obituary. A remarkable family and son, indeed.

Mom of a Carleton ultimate player here. I haven’t been on much since the site change but wanted to thank everyone for the good thoughts. It’s been a rough week, but I wouldn’t want my child anywhere else. The community has been sooo caring – parents, staff, alums, Northfield and the wider ultimate community. I feel like so much love has flowed from this devastating tragedy.

There really are no words, Youdon’tsay. :(

Youdon’tsay, it’s good to hear how the Carleton community has rallied together. I’m sorry for what your son is going through right now. Was he one of the players at yesterday’s funeral?

No, he’s on GoP, the DIII team. They were at the airport on the way to a tournament in Vegas when they got the word and came back. The DI girls team came back that night, and the DIII girls team came home the next day.

Shout out to St. Olaf, which also sent Friday Flowers to the Carleton kids. Lovin’ those Oles right now.
