Thrift/Estate/Second Hand Finds

When my daughter was in stroller, we went into a garage sale and bought a dress for her. When paying, the folks remembered they had more. They pulled down the garage attic stairs and fetched a box. Oh, my I got the most exquisite little velvet dress with smocking for $1. They weren’t trying to make money… just wanted to see nice things get reused. I’ve always felt the same way. Tis becoming an even more common sentiment these days.

Yes, I love for my treasures to find good new homes! My niece who was my flower girl was thrilled that D was able to wear the washable lace dress for many years after niece had outgrown it. D climbed trees, played soccer K basketball and did all kinds of busy activities in that lovely dress and it always washed our perfectly!

This is not a great find to anyone but me. I’ve always been fascinated with Egypt and I found these Franklin Mint ornaments at a thrift store for $3 each. I bought 15 of them.

I’m sure you got an amazing deal—probably the whole batch cost less than they paid for one of those ornaments originally!

After having dinner with neighbor, I had to come back to report that she sold every single one of those uber expensive pieces, except the hutch which is going to auction in Scottsdale. I didn’t know that her mom’s art dealer husband was well-known, so this wasn’t a random estate sale. The BSA came yesterday to clear out the garage and take everything that was left.

The house gets painted and staged for sale next week. I hope we like the new neighbors.

The situation is very sad for my vet neighbor who has fallen through the cracks in our healthcare system, but the house proceeds aren’t for his care. It needs to be sold because he’ll never live in it again, and his sister doesn’t want it.

Had to bump this up as I had a great haul at a rural Goodwill I popped into while on a work road trip today.

(Of note: my husbands retirement gig is he sells on eBay. Everything from clothes to tools to old toys. A very hot item is shoes. Most of these items will be flipped into his “shop”!

All in new or next to new condition:
Men’s Keens Hiking Sandals
On cloud Woman’s Running Shoes
Men’s Canvas Vans
Sloggers Gardening Clogs

Black Baggelini Travel Bag
ADORABLE Sherpani Green Crossbody (I think I’m keeping this, it’s SO me!)

All this for a total of $30 - including a cute doggie treat jar with lid!

He will sell the Keens for $30 easy if not more. Makes him so happy when I contribute to this hobby/money maker for him!

Re: post above, the Keens alone sold for $40!

Went to an estate sale in the neighborhood today. For myself, bought a smaller chest sized vintage Coleman green medal cooler in great shape for $6.

But the big buy was a mid century Martinsville dining table with 6 chairs (2 armchairs) and 2 extra leaves in great condition for $250! Cushions in really great shape , just will give them a cleaning and I’m gifting it to my D1 and her H who are buying their first house!

Here’s the cooler - I’ll post a pic of the table and chairs when I get cleaned up

I love the vintage green!

Memories of camping as a kid and using that cooler as a seat! (maybe a little larger, can’t tell the size in pic)

And for wee ones, it was two seats

Wow - the Keens were probably $120 or so retail.

They were. But since I paid like $5 for them H reels you don’t ask for top dollar for them on eBay - you take and good profit and be happy with it!

We actually have a large one too. But that’s often too bulky to take places. Which was why I liked this one - easier tote!

The table and chairs were a real bargain!

Looking on-line, I really like that style - looks pretty minimalist.

We had one just like it when I was a kid

But did your grandparents have the round scotch plaid cooler? Actually each pair of my grandparents had one. There was a lot of cousin interest in one of them (which lived a second life with my aunt) a few years back.
