hey woody–i would get a second opinion too. i pulled out three ticks, and my doc put me on a dose of doxicycline as a preventative measue. i certainly did not want to “wait and see” if i got sick.

Ticks…ugh…one day spent helping DH clear our lot this spring reulted in 5 or 6 ticks on me and only one on him. We got them all off and I have not had any symptoms. Earlier this month was standing in S’s weedy front yard just before college grad. and aparantly was attacked by a tick that crawled up my pant’s leg. I never knew until after the grad. when I felt in on my upper thigh. Was out sightseeing near the beach this weekend and got in the car to find a tick crawling on my foot! I have never had ticks before but now, it’s every time I turn around…ugh.

Lyme symptoms can take weeks or even months to show up, not necessarily in the days following a tick bite. S contracted lyme and had no symptoms until 7-8 weeks after initial tick bite. On the plus side, we are from the east coast (where he was bitten in early May last year) but he got sick (very sick) while visiting LA late June, and we had the shortest wait time in history at Cedar Sinai ER because, I think, they don’t have deer ticks there and consequently rarely see the disease. That and we were insured, of course. Strong dose of dox. cleared it right up.

Our vet for our new puppy recommended Frontline (which kills them) rather than a tick collar, which just distracts them and keeps them alive so they can jump on the rest of the family and hide in your cushions waiting to attack!

owlice, you are too funny!
