Time-restricted eating

The NYT’s personal health writer Jane Brody wrote about IF and the study in the New England Journal of Medicine mentioned earlier in this thread.

Someway related to this, I actually have Jane Brody’s Good Food Cookbook from 35 years ago. Subtitled “Living the high carbohydrate way.”

I have that cookbook as well, @CheddarcheeseMN! I think we need a thread on favorite cookbooks and recipes from them.

Cooking? What is this foreign activity of which you speak?

Am still sitting at 8 lbs down. Anyone else have a long plateau? How long did

Started this, along with reducing sugar intake, in mid-January. Am now down 11 pounds; haven’t hit a plateau yet. Hope I didn’t just jinx myself. Need to lose 14 more. But I am feeling better.

Welcome, @luder16 ! Congrats!

My post cut off earlier. How long did anyone else’s plateau last? Its a little frustrating, but the time restricted eating is pretty easy to do, and makes one mindful of what/when they eat.

I don’t if I hit a plateau. I am staying at the same weight that I am happy with.

I hit a plateau at 8lbs down. But that might be because I have been incorporating daily slices of birthday cake into my 8-hour window. ? It will be finished soon enough!

@CheddarcheeseMN - My Jane Brody “Good Food” cookbook is a favorite, starting to fall apart. Her pumpkin bread is one of the few things that I bake. I also have her Gourmet cookbook but rarely use it.

Am 10 lbs down. How is everyone else doing?

I ran across the previous "intermittent fasting thread from last year. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/2110720-intermittent-fasting.html

Wondered how everyone is doing. @MaryBarbara58 and @collage1 - I noticed you don’t eat breakfast. Are you doing the intermittent fasting?

@jym626 I started intermittent fasting last March 18th. I’ve lost 32 pounds (have plateaued) but am only 2 pounds away from a totally normal BMI. Having spent lots of money at WW over the years (and always gaining back the weight), I’m still amazed that simply not eating for sixteen straight hours has been effective.

WOW @MaryBarbara58 ! Congratulations!! Thats wonderful! Are you doing anything else within the restricted time (ie changing what you eat? Low carb? etc?) I find that I am more mindful of what I eat, but I am not restricting what I eat, just when.

@jym626 Eating normally other than within my “window”. I eat chocolate every single day (would not be sustainable for me if I couldn’t!). I do walk four miles every day - have to close my circles on my Apple Watch.
