Tips On Buying A Used Car

We just bought a 2016 Volvo V60 CPO. Very excited about it.

@thumper1 we own/have owned many Volvos. We think they are great.

We are happy bout this one. DH needed a car redo. We sold his to a friend, and are buying the V60. Price out the door with tax and registration should be about $20500. Not bad. Car has about 20,000 miles on it.

I have a long commute so have been buying new and keeping the cars for quite some time. When I have looked at late model used cars, especially coming off lease, the price is often similar to or higher than the base model of the same vehicle new. There is a highly rated used car dealer in our town, but again saving a few thousand dollars for a car with options I don’t care about vs a brand new car has not seemed worth it.

I can see buying a higher mileage used car in the future for a second car since DH won’t be commuting.

Well…we thought we had purchased a new Volvo…but guess what? When I got there this morning with deposit in hand, a family from OOS was test driving it…because the dealership had not received my deposit. And they bought it.

Let’s just say…I will never buy a car from this dealership again. The sales manager was told I would be brining in a deposit on Saturday and never had the decency to contact me to say “can you get it here sooner”. I’m local to this dealership…and it would have been my fourth car there. Never again.

@thumper1 - that is despicable!! Our Subaru dealership held the car for us without any deposits until we were ready to pick it up (they wanted a physical check and the bank was obviously closed on Sunday).
