Tips on the College Admission Process

This was great information, thanks! So do you need to send your AP scores to colleges?

Once you get into the college and have taken all your AP’s, then you send it. On the AP booklet that you fill out before you take the exam, they ask which colleges you want the scores sent to. Do that.

Califa-How about submitting some of the stories to literary journals and trying to get them published?

TokenAdult-What do you think about someone who takes AP classes in their area of expertise, say AP Lit, AP, Lang, AP U.S. Hisory, AP Euro History, Ap Psychology, AP Econ, but takes regular, bio, chem, physics, and pre-calculus?

There’s a lot to be said for taking on your toughest challenges in the subjects you enjoy best.

Tokenadult-but do adcoms see this as a negative-avoiding APs in subjects that “aren’t your thing”?

If other students in your high school keep up with tougher schedules, you may have to keep up with them, but your main task is to do your best in what you do best.

Well, my daughter is number 20 in a class of 713 and it’s obvious that the top 19 are able to do the APs in the science and math area since she has all As. It’s late now anyway…applying in fall

What are EC’s?

Extracurricular activities.

hi My name is shaun stewart and I attend Burnsville senior high, I am a soon to be junior and I am taking 3 out of 4 honors and ap classes the school would not let me take the fourth one, but anyway my question is that I am one of the three black students in all my ap and honors classes. I just got back from the carleton liberal arts experience and was wondering if schools do look at the minorities in your high school and take it into context when deciding admissions?

sstewart

actually I think its like one in five or six black students

Shaun, many schools do, wanting to admit qualified students of color to try to get the campus makeup to closer match the overall population.

How did you like the Carleton session? It’s one of the top academic schools. What other schools interest you?

Schools consider your local context if you tell them about your local context. If that is an important issue in your high school experience, mention it in your application.

Good luck in your applications.

Ok, this is my first post here, so I’m a bit nervous. If I’m in the wrong place, please say so.

What would my chances be of gettting into a good state school in North Carolina(think Chapel Hill, NC State) with these things…

3.25 GPA UW/3.55 weighted

Several Honors Courses plus 1 AP Bio course(on which I achieved a 4 on). Taking AP Chem this year as well. Sorry if I don’t have a list of my classes. I don’t have one on me.

EC’s- R.O.T.C for all 4 years of High Schoiol. NCO Personnel Officer in my junior year(Orgainized ribbons/awards).

National Honor Society(I was inducted Junior year).

I volunteered for around 18 hours at the libary(should do more).

SAT scores

680-CR
490-M
560-Wr

I’m going to take it again in October.

So what do you guys think? And if you could help me out, that would be nice as well.

JAJdude, there is a specific forum for chance threads. <a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/[/url]”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/&lt;/a&gt;
And, you would probably have a better shot at getting a reply there.

So basically its better to have taken an AP US History class having gotton a B then taking an Honors Us History class getting an A?

Yep, every time.

Yes, indeed, but to those whose school does not offer AP, you won’t be penalized.

personal statement meaning the essay topics they give you??
