I thought that was what the Parent Cafe was already. No COVID talk and no politics. Hard to see what is new. I agree with @doschicos.
OK, so I guess this thread is not that original. I tried, sigh!
Yes, not sure what happened to that “Deb” I enjoyed her. I also enjoyed that coffee cart. I remember it getting me through one winter when work was kind of blah.
Deb, omg on the guy in the middle of the highway. I thought you were going to say he was gazing at the beautiful mosque! Only in Toledo!!!
You’re on page 2! Keep going. ![]()
It’s fine. If the Debbie Downers don’t like it, no need to participate. There are other channels for them.
I appreciate any attempt to get us away from the C topic, and if we wander, so what?
It’s sort of like a Zoom happy hour without the Zooming.
We decided to put in a new brick patio. We’ve been excited planning, looking at inspiration pics, and picking out furniture. Now to get the landscaper to respond!
D has taken up embroidery. She’s starting making her own designs and friends are asking her to custom make designs for them too. She’s having fun!
@momofsenior1 A friend of mine recently started embroidering - on wallpaper! She cuts pieces of monochrome wallpaper and paints them (a bit like paint-by-numbers), then she embroiders sections; it is so pretty!
I had two night camping trip to Algonquin provincial park in Canada. It took me 3.5 hours to finish a hiking trail which is rated as difficult with a length of 7.7 km. The difficulty is due to the elevation changes. The day was hot and humid to make the hiking even harder, but I did it!
I will be retiring on Friday
I’m bummed we can’t travel but excited about exploring local opportunities. We picked a Yeti softsided cooler as my retirement “gift” (corporate points, catalog of choices)… hoping it will set our theme for car trips and perhaps a bit of camping.
There is always the thread on decorative pillows, too. Never could have imagined that so many people might have such strong feelings about decorative pillows.
Congrats, @colorado_mom, on your retirement. Now that’s something to celebrate – I’m raising my glass to you!
I think it’s a fun, fast thread. I enjoyed mentioning my son’s paintings, but didn’t want to make an entire new thread about it. Isn’t it sort of the same as “rant here” thread.
It’s fun readings other’s comments.
I love this thread! Keep it coming! But I can’t think of anything exciting or semi-exciting or even boring to share myself at the moment. Maybe my brain will work later
This is why I was actually kind of “relieved” the BLM issue took off. Relieved isn’t the right word, but it offers something different and important to think about.
In fact, it spurred me to read some interesting books and articles, and was the reason I ended up watching 13th and The Hate U Give, both of which were excellent and eye opening.
I also miss mindless gossip, haha. No more kids in the district. You can’t gossip too much when everyone pretty much stays home.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/62644-sinners-alley-happy-hour-p316.html This was/is a great thread!! Waving hi to all the sinners alley folk! Hard to believe it was started 15 years ago, with the same purpose/intend as this current thread. Some very fun and funny posts in that thread. A true classic!
My husband turns 60 on Friday. I went from taking him to Italy, all expenses on me, to “I got nothin.” I’ve FINALLY convinced him to get some wireless ear buds, and an Apple Watch to load his music on so he can get back to running with music. Not nearly as “fun” as Italy, but it’s something.
July 31st was also a possible retirement date for me. I’ve decided I’m waiting until next spring, but I am down to “one bad day” (and I’m outta there).
Both my H & I are away from home on work assignments (H near Chicago & I’m near NYC) and we’d like to see each other for a long weekend. Originally I was thinking Cleveland, but that’s now on Dr Brix’ bad boy list, so that’s out. We are each willing to drive 10 hours, and don’t care if it’s in a city or country as long as low C and no unrest. Any ideas?
(I hope it’s ok to post here. I thought this is lightweight and fun. But don’t want to hijack the thread).
@melvin123, hijacking is allowed in this thread.
Between Chicago & NYC it will be 12 hour driving. So the mid-point is around Cleveland. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is nearby. You may consider.
