<p>you guys are to brainwashed but others on this forum and by society. Just because you have a lower IQ, really has no bearing on what you can and will be able to do.</p>
<p>Engineering is all about creativity and then solving problems you create for yourself. Really anybody could do it, and you just need to love what you do and everything will fall into place. Is engineering a hard major, sure it is. It needs to be, so we dont have total dopes doing it. You need to weed out some. those some are the ones who don’t care about their jobs and they will make bad engineers. they will be bas as they are not willing to put forth the dedication and time it takes for society.</p>
<p>I was a Special ed student my entire life, had a major leaning disability and I have a BS, MS in comp Engineering with a focus in wireless sensor networks. and VSLI. My IQ is not all to amazing either, grades were not always the best. But I love what I do, and I make it work.</p>
The obvious response is “It doesn’t matter how much passion you have, you can’t contribute very much to a field if you are not smart enough.”</p>
<p>For most engineering I’d imagine the lower limit is likely around ~115 IQ. This precludes ~83% of the population. If someone goes to a school where they are 1 standard deviation below the average person in their major in academic abilities - I highly doubt they will be able to perform at an above average level. In fact, most (if not virtually all) of the top students at my school were highly above average over the entering freshman of their year.</p>
<p>My advice is just to work as hard as you can and I’m sure you’ll be able to preform satisfactory. Will you be able to help in cutting edge research? I think you will. </p>
<p>While the IQ isn’t a bad tool for what it measures that does not always directly correlate to how well you do in specific subjects. Engineering needs engineering smarts if you are smart at what it takes to be an engineer than your IQ doesn’t really matter.</p>
