I thought that the friend/co-worker looked kind of irritated. Imagine thinking your friend was innocent and saying you would testify for him. For all we know he had no idea about what else was going on… and then you get stuck on the stand ? Maybe he was acting normal around his friends. I just don’t think the friend had any idea all of that was going to come out… Yikes. I have to wonder if he will continue testifying for Ross.

Whether or not I believed my friend killed his son, I’d be pretty grossed out at the idea that he was sending pictures of his private parts just feet away from where I was sitting.

^^^
Really, who does this sort of thing at work and at that hour of the morning? It is deviant behavior anyway but sounds like there is something major going on here with this guy. He just makes me ill all the way around.

Yes, irritated is a good word for how he seemed. But to be irritated and nonchalant testifying at the hearing having to do with a horrific toddler’s death? Shrugging your shoulders as an answer to a question, and answering “Nope”??? In court? Unreal. No matter what he thinks of his friend’s actions on that day, to come across that way was very offputting to me considering the gravity of the situation.

yes it’s pretty gross. I would hope that at least the pictures were taken before he got to work…

^^^^^^OMG.

OMG indeed!

yeah, yuck, just yuck

Guess he was not using Snapchat?

Someone asked about the cost of insurance on a small child. We used to get those Gerber “grow up plan” throwaway postcard things in magazines. I just ran the cost. For a child under age 1 in GA, the cost for a $25K policy is $14.03/mo https://www.gerberlife.com/gl/planassistant.do;jsessionid=0A5F91D78BE87430BACDDD783EDFA4C9?successPath=growup_app&plan=growup_08&CreationSuccessPrefix=responsive_api_preload&CreationFailurePrefix=responsive_api_preload&appFieldMappingName=quote_to_growup_dtc_api_app&emailTemplateName=%2Ftemplates%2Femail%2Fgrowup_responsive%2Fquote&errorPath=P4aed01c3wicvisswpyzkwv7sktxf2633dcelcrr2jwtzx65jpomnjr7rpufrwj5ypnm6nqhgyvuea6u4wzakul&smoker=no&InsuredIsBeneficiary=Y&value(Child1Sex)=M&submit_from=growupForm&wrapperName=default&value(DefaultMarketingKey)=401335&value(DefaultMarketingKeyPlanName)=growup_08&emailDelaySeconds=0&lcsMapping=lcs_growup_quote_email&value(LCSPage)=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gerberlife.com%2Fgl%2Fview%2Findex.jsp&delayedEmailID=&state=GA&age=0&gender=male&value(EmailAddress)=&trackData=home+0%2Cquote

After reading about another accidental car death, I am hoping that someone comes up with a sensor that sounds an alarm when the car temp hits a high degree and can tell if there is a living creature in the car. These are truly tragic deaths.

The police are doing a recreation of the events of June 18 http://www.11alive.com/story/news/local/marietta/2014/07/08/leanna-harris-visits-husband-in-jail/12351139/

I guess some people never learn: http://www.courant.com/community/ridgefield/hc-ridgefield-child-death-0709-20140708,0,5378322.story

@jym626 – I didn’t pay much attention to the insurance thing, because my parents bought life insurance policies on my kids a long time ago, when they were pretty young. My father kept up the policies over the years and recently turned them over to me - they are $100K policies with premiums less than $30 a month. They are whole life polices which have been building cash value over years The bottom line reason the policies were bought is because my dad’s 2nd wife and former step-mom (now deceased) was a life insurance agent. So she knew the business - plus if she sold a policy she got a commission, and probably extra benefits or bonuses if she met or exceeded a quota or sold particular policies at particular times (depending on the company she represented and whatever their incentive system as for agents). So I just always assumed that she sold the policies to my dad at whatever was the optimum time for her to chalk up a couple of more policies sold.

So I figure that a parent with a $25K policy on a kid might very well be a parent who has a friend who sells life insurance – the sales pitch is that if you buy a whole life insurance on a kid the premiums are less and will stay the same for life - and the policy builds cash value over time. So it’s essentially a forced savings plan. Term life (no cash value) is cheaper but it’s a lot harder for me to see any legit reason for buying it on a baby – but insurance agents get commissions on those as well – so I can still see an agent talking a young parent into buying one.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t expect that parents in that position would be in a particular hurry to collect on the policy after an accidental death. Sure, they need the money – but I think most would go through a grieving process before getting around to thinking about submitting a claim on the policy.

If they are whole life or universal life policies, they can set up vanishing premiums, so the cost of the annual premium is taken from the stock value.

Geez, what is up with Connecticut? That’s a lot of cases in a short time. Really, do people have no common sense at all??

I dont understand it either.
I dont have a great short term memory and could have won the sleep deprived award when my kids were small, but I never forgot that they were there.
Now forgetting where I parked the car, or my car keys, or even where I was going, is a totatlly different story.

Because, God knows, we would never leave our cell phone behind!!!

Makes sense - how would one sext without a phone?

If I understand this article correctly
http://www.hlntv.com/article/2014/07/08/tips-for-justin-ross-harris-defense-page-pate-georgia
in GA the state doesn’t even have to prove intent (which I do think can be proven) to convict for felony murder.
If you follow the link at the end of the article, the attorney that is quoted also mentions rumors of a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, if this is true I hope it includes him providing any information about his wife’s involvement.
