Tonsiloliths?

Just don’t drink it! Safe to gargle with in concentrations of 3% or less.

I am always amazed at which threads will resurface after several months!

Funny that this thread got bumped…I actually scheduled my tonsillectomy a few weeks ago. After my fourth recurrence of tonsil stones, I decided I ought to do it now while I still have fantastic health insurance (which terminates in December). I know tonsil stones are not horribly dangerous, but they are, for me, painful and extremely annoying. I’m ready to never have them again.

Please check back to let us know how your surgery went. Some more of us might consider it if it’s not too painful.

I just had mine out for this very reason.

Recovery has been quite painful, though I’m only on my first day since the procedure. :)

I forgot to ever check back about my surgery… I had my tonsils removed one week before Thanksgiving. For me, the recovery was quite smooth. Only the first few days were unbearable in terms of the pain, but still I was able to go the movies the day after surgery. However, I tried eating solid foods on the third day and subsequently vomited. Honestly, it was horrible but it was my lowest point during recovery.

After the third day, I never needed the full dose of pain meds (percocet), and I stopped taking any after the fifth day. By Thanksgiving, I could eat a few small bites of all the food. If I remember correctly, it did take about two weeks–by the time I returned to my job waiting tables–for the pain to dissipate altogether.

In sum, I had scared myself silly by reading others’ horror stories, but the procedure was not nearly as bad as I had anticipated. It was 100% worth it to be done with tonsiloliths forever.

I’m glad you survived. I’m still not sure the benefit outweighs the pain.

Toledo, I’m not sure surgery would be the best decision for most people, giving the cost, pain and recovery time. For me, though, tonsil stones were a huge discomfort and embarrassment, particularly considering my job. Also, I was never able to remove the tonsil stones naturally or by coughing, unlike a lot of people. The surgery was a big decision and I was very nervous, but I’ve never looked back.

Heh, are you sure he didn’t say “cryptic” tonsils?

I belive the word was decrepit, kind of old and falling apart like the rest of my body.

Dear friedns.

I want to share with you how my yellow stinky balls has suddenly dissapeard. I had them since highschool and now I’m 26. I really forgotten about them because they have dissapeard recently - couple of monhts ago, when I had a surgeon removal of 8th tooth - wisdom tooth. 2 of my teeth has shown around high school but 2 of them never appeard. Around January this year I felt that one of the “unborn” is cutting my gum sufrace - but it didn’t appear even after 3 weeks. So I made a X ray of my jaw and both of 8ths were placed horizontally. I have removed both. I really think that the solution of our problem is an infection related to our teeth.

Regards

Tell me if you have 8ths “uborn”

Sorry for my english guys.

well, this is kind of gross and my friend shares the same talent. When i was younger, i, (for some stupid reason) felt the need to be able to swallow my tongue. I actually did at one point which scared the hell out of me. I ended up breaking that muscle or tendon thing that pokes out as a line going vertical down the center (i think its called the lingual frenum) when you try to reach back with your tongue. I can now make my tongue go down my throat which is pretty gross. I also discovered that I have holes where my tonsils are which occasionally get jammed with a tonsiloth. It is very easy to remove them with my tongue, (although i do not recommend breaking the muscle underneath your tongue as it hurts quite a bit for a few days). Its pretty gross and my friend shares the same talent as I do. Tonsiloths are very gross and evidently serve no purpose so its kind of convenient that i can remove them as easily as i can. It also freaks people out when i can play with my uvula with my tongue and also make my tongue disappear down my throat.
