Did you see how gracious he was to the democratic legislators in New Jersey during his speech at the Reagan Library? Said he was proud to call them his friends.

Maybe he should do DWTS like Kirstie Alley, she lost 100# according to the latest supermarket tabloids.

I agree with all of this. As a NJ resident this is what makes me ambivalent about him running for president. Like his body type or not, he is getting things done. That’s the bottom line.

<<that is=“” ridiculous…so=“” it=“” not=“” ok=“” to=“” comment=“” on=“” one’s=“” race,=“” sexuality,personal=“” life,but=“” ridicule=“” christie’s=“” weight?=“”>></that>

LOL seriously? I’m pretty sure I heard Obama’s race mentioned a few times during the campaign. Ditto Clinton’s sex life.

The bottom line as far as weight is that the political discussion in this country is entirely superficial and juvenile, and most of the reporters care about the “horse race” and what people look like and what they put on their sandwiches. So yes, Christie is fat and it is not going to work for him, for that reason.

@zoosermom – Actually Kennedy had terrible back problems, he wasn’t allowed to pick up his children and he was close to being in a wheel chair. He was from an era when this kind of topic wasn’t spoken about much in the press. Has anyone mentioned FDR yet? He was in terrible health but was a very effective president.

The first time I heard Christie speak I noticed his weight. That initial impression was soon overcome by his charisma. He has a commanding presence, is a terrific speaker and is a very effective governor. I’d love to see someone like his as president.

The University of Iowa renovated their football stadium a few years ago. Increased the width of each seat by an inch or two to accomodate wider butts but it wasn’t nearly enough. It is one of the main reasons why I hate to go to larger sporting events, I’m tired of being squished by large butts.

Whether or not that was the perception, and whether or not the perception was true, Kennedy was one of the four (9%) US presidents who died in office due to assassination. Four others died of natural causes.

Besides his back problems, Kennedy had Addison’s disease.

I enjoy having Christie in the political arena. He is entertaining. I think it would be truly fascinating to watch him run for president. I think we haven’t really seen anything like his style run for POTUS.

If nothing else, it’s nice when politics offers up some interesting personalities.

Kennedy was on an unbelievably long list of drugs, including heavy duty pain killers and injections of amphetamines.
If health and fitness is a pre-req for the presidency, he would have failed spectaculary.

If Christie does run he’ll get the vote of every state and municipal worker in New Jersey.

Too funny Toblin! All my friends that work for the state that hate him, so they would be happy to see him go!

No one has picked up my comment that he is a BULLY! It’s his way or the highway. That just won’t work in DC - look at what pushing healthcare reform has done to Obama’s approval rating. (Hillary would have backed off, as she experienced first hand the wrath of Congress when she tried to shepherd that for Bill).

I think the Tea Party folks would rip Christie to shreds with his moderate stands on hot-button issues such as abortion, gun control, gay marriage, immigration, etc. This is a concern, as they (Tea Party) are polarizing the US and you will not get conservative Democrats or Independents to vote for one of their clan.

So does my dog, who clearly will never be president then. Darn!

Isn’t that the nature of the governor’s office in New Jersey? (As opposed, to, say, Texas?)

Are you a speciesist, PG? I love dogs. I particularly love beagles.
