Should I do UAH Honors or regular? Also I ran through the NPC and it didn’t have the option to go over 4. It just said 4.0. I just asked my counselor and she said they do send weighted.
Look for other options as well as UAH. Never know what’s offered next year. You need to look for viable options for yourself.
Will do. Thank you!
Folks, the OP has said that they have $80K in their college fund.
So UAH is an option. So are some Dakota publics like SD Mines. Also NM Tech.
The UIUC Engineering Pathway would also be an option but would require starting out in CC and living at home the first 2 years.
I don’t have 80K in my college fund. I have less than half of that.
Whoops, I misread. So UAH remains as an option.
Possibly UIUC Engineering Pathway (with max Federal loans and earnings from work).
UAH is an easy backup option. Easy to apply, and currently their merit aid is guaranteed for certain stats.
Yes, you should also look for other options. You are wise to know your money situation and you have time to improve your test score.
I am looking at UAH’s requirements and see that I need 4 years of social studies. I dropped social studies for my senior year to take another AP math course. Does this mean that I completely can’t even apply?
NMTech remains as an option as well. OOS COA of a little over $17K/year. On their scholarship chart (https://www.nmt.edu/finaid/freshmen.php), right now you’d get $5K/year. Definitely doable with Federal loans.
Here’s a tout sheet for NM Tech: https://www.nmt.edu/rankings/index.php
Are you sure your mother has enough money and a good enough credit history to be eligible for private loans? Will she be able to pay them back if she doesn’t ave the money now?
Do you currently hold a job?
Iowa State, UAH, UUC, IIT are all possibilities. What about UMN Duluth? UWyoming? UNebraska? UMaine Orono? Clarkson? Union?
Send UAH a message and ask them. Make sure you list ALL your social studies courses (or similar types). Some other course may complete the requirement.
She has a good amount of money, she just doesn’t want to give me any for college. She has a very good credit score, it took a hit when she didn’t have a job but it’s still well above average. I might be able to count on my dad/step mom or my grandma for some help as they’ve done it with my other siblings. By help I mean helping pay for loans, and then I’d pay them back with no interest. My grandma did that with my cousin. She paid for her loans and then my cousin gradually paid her back. I have a job. I work about 15 hours a week. UIUC is kind of out of the picture, I wouldn’t get into engineering there. I’ll take a look at those other you mentioned. Thank you
^ Why even consider private loans if there are possible colleges with only Federal loans?
Just send an email to one of the admissions counselors with my full list of classes/scores/gpa?
Check the admissions requirements for UIUC Engineering Pathways. I’m pretty certain it is easier to enter than UIUC Engineering. You do need to keep your GPA above 3.5 in technical classes in CC to keep the guaranteed transfer in to UIUC Engineering.
I agree as a freshman UIUC engineering is likely not in reach. But the engineering pathway thru your community college could still be a potential option, you would save money the first two years by living at home and having inexpensive tuition https://pathways.engineering.illinois.edu/
If you achieve the pathway requirements, UIUC engineering admission is guaranteed after the 4 CC semesters. Requirements are not easy: relatively heavy course loads (16-17 credits/semester), no grade less than B, and a 3.5 gpa both overall and in technical courses. UIUC transfer financial aid is also worse than freshman fin aid (and that’s saying something).
Does your family meet the Illinois Commitment program requirements? That is free tuition if you meet these requirements: https://admissions.illinois.edu/commitment
The body of the message should state that you are not certain if you meet the full 4 year social studies requirements. Note that you have listed what you believe to be your social studies courses at the bottom of the email if they might kindly be willing to review those.
Also in the body of the message, ask if you could meet the requirement with a summer course at a local community college (check first to make sure those are available) or via an online course if the courses you listed don’t meet the requirements.
All the Dakota publics (UND, NDSU, SDSU, USD, SD Mines) have a COA of $25K/year or below. You’d qualify for small scholarships at some of them.
About 2 years ago we did. Not anymore.
https://www.nmt.edu/finaid/tuition.php says $18,102 per semester, or $36,204 per year, for out-of-state.
