Took the Accuplacer, Didn't Score High Enough

Don’t equate an individual wanting to be of value with being dependent on others. What good are accomplishments when no one can reap the benefits of them?

“What good are accomplishments when no one can reap the benefits of them?”

You know that you are benefiting others. That should be enough. Look at the open source world. Tens of thousands give away their time, effort and money. Sure, everyone knows who Linux Torvalds is but everyone below is unknown to the hundreds of millions that use the operating system in one way or another.

Sometimes, Miss Silvestris, it becomes necessary to ‘rub’ one’s intellect in another’s face to get noticed or a foot in the door, especially since I’m a minority (African American) who experiences being “passed over” simply because of my race.

“Y’know alot of people say oh Donald Trump talks about himself and that’s he’s this and that, but what I’m doing is I’m telling people, ‘Hey, I do a good job.’ Because if [they] don’t say it, maybe no one else will.”

“Y’know alot of people say oh Donald Trump talks about himself and that’s he’s this and that,”

Trump has gone bankrupt so many times and has bilked so many stock and bond investors that he should be considered a Madoff clone. He talks about himself as adults would think that he’s a loser for all of the companies he’s run into the ground.

That said, what you accomplish in your undergraduate career does your talking for you. You can put down what you did on your resume but that’s about it. If an employer wants more information on a topic, then he will ask you. You will probably get some free time to talk about yourself but it’s best to speak about your accomplishments and the areas of your character that contributed to your accomplishments.

I’m a minority citizen too and that has advantages and disadvantages too but nobody can take away your accomplishments, talents and abilities. We all get passed over for one thing or another. It may be that someone else doesn’t like us but assuming that you’re passed over because of race isn’t productive. We have a new President that wasn’t passed over. In fact his race probably helped him win.

Most people don’t like whiners, complainers and those that are in your face. Let your transcript, resume, awards, job records and character do your speaking for you.

^BCEagle91, I should have mentioned that was a quote by Donald Trump.

Miss Silvestis, I’ve just come to myself. I don’t know why the heck I’ve been comparing myself with a ‘nobody’ from Notre Dame. It’s such a meaningless comparison. Not that I should be comparing myself in the first place, but the comparison criteria is sorely lacking.

I think a more credible role model, someone who has undoubtedly displayed pure intelligence, leadership, and creativity, would be Barack Obama.

Thanks for the the enlightenment.

Glad to have helped. Comparisons to people who have actually done incredible and worthwhile things tend to be a lot more meaningful and accomplish more than rivalries. Good luck on whatever you decide to do from here :)
