Top Chef Questions

Much more offensive than wimpy. I think it was soon after Stefan felt that Hosea had “stolen” all the foie gras and caviar.

I heard it and couldn’t believe my ears!! I was thinking that maybe they missed it because of his accent, or maybe they thought he said something else in German??

Geez, I definitely missed it. Whatever it was that he said.
Back to Carla— I don’t think her failures were a set up. She had shown a lack of backbone earlier in the season also. I recall one time when she was a member of a group, she just let them railroad her and she was always accomodating to the others. In addition, she really was sent for a loop by the surprise additional course. Also, for some reason from the start, Carla planned to prepare a french meal.
Toby was insistent that a dessert was necessary and used that point against Hosea. Tom said sternly that dessert was not a requirement for the challenge and then the next shot was them all saying they knew who the Top Chef should be with a camera shot of Toby nodding meekly. I would like to see that discussion.

I think, though, that Tom was right - you can’t tell the contestants that they don’t have to do a dessert and then hold it against them if they don’t.

According to Toby’s blog, he simply had to go along with the majority (remember, it’s not just Tom, but Gail and Padma, too), and they all wanted Hosea. I’m sure there was a bit of “and we’re the regulars” in that discussion, too.

Do you mean the word Stefan used in describing Marcel? A four letter word that begins and ends with a “t,” and has a “w” and an “a” in between? What he said about Marcel was, “he’s a bit of a ----, but aren’t we all?”

Or was it another four-letter word?

Donna

PS: There’s a rather famous bit of literary trivia concerning Robert Browning’s use of the word I just mentioned, in his poem “Pippa Passes.” Apparently, he somehow thought the word referred to a kind of antiquated headgear worn by nuns. Hence, the line in the poem that refers to “an old nun’s ----.”

Not a shining moment in his career.

Oh no–what Stefan said is an extremely mild insult in England. It is akin to saying “twit” or “twirp”. They say it all the time–to men and women. And, obviously, that’s the type of English Stefan would speak!
But, yes, my husband and I noticed it and knew that it would be misunderstood!

oh, yeah, I heard that and knew it in the UK English context and did not think twice about

Well thanks for clearing that up for me, yes, you’ve found the word. I have family in Britain. E-mail already sent asking for clarification.

I was surprised that it made it through to broadcast. If they had bleeped it, people would have thought he was really saying something bad, but you would have thought they would stop the tape and suggest he rephrase it! OTOH, maybe they wanted to underscore his cocky attitude, which may have lost him the win, among other things.

I felt so bad about Carla, since they really seemed to love her appetizer and her first course. But for her to cave in to Casey–especially regarding the tart (she won for her pastry twice before!) was inexcusable.

My opinion of Stefan went up a bit when he seemed truly upset that Carla was upset and he tried to comfort her. I had not seen that side of him.

does it even matter what stefan said. personally, i hate marcel and think he needs to be called a Tw@t

I couldn’t believe it when Carla went with the sous vide idea, especially with the gorgeous beef. Sous vide is fine with chicken/fish, but if you’ve never done it before, it’s got to be tremendously difficult to get beef right. That beef should have been beautifully pan seared. Same goes with the souffle. You don’t toss a souffle in for a meal of that importance unless you’ve thought about it and are a pro at making souffles. Oven temp has to be one of the main things you check. Even if it had been cooked beautifully, I would have worried about the time spent before it was served. Carla just didn’t stand up to Casey’s completely off the wall (for Carla) suggestions.

I missed the rehash show last nite. Anything interesting? (I’m sure it will get replayed, just impatient).

There was a cute segment on the “bromance” between Fabio and Stefan…it was my favorite part. They remain friends now.

Not surprisingly, neither Hosea or Leah are still with their pre-show significant others.

I guess I can spill the beans that Fabio won fan-favorite…no real surprise there either!

I also liked Carla, until she let her assistance dictate to her that last show.

Dang. I missed it also. It is usually on at 10 pm here and when I turned it on it was some modeling show. Apparantly it had been on at 9. I will have to search for the rerun. I am glad Fabio won fan favorite. Someone on here predicted he will have his own show on the food network. I think winning fan favorite may make that a correct prediction. What a charmer!

I believe Tom (the top judge) stated that he expects Fabio to go on via food network and he expects him to be the most successful chef due to how well the viewing audience loved him.

I loved Fabio he just is fun to watch…same with Carla. Stefan on the other hand makes me want to turn off the tv…he could be a great chef, but his attitude is like nails on a chalk board for me.

I live in the Dc area so now I want to go to her restaurant to check it out, but I am not sure if it is just a catering company…if it is I am sure she will be booked up forever now.

Did any of you see Fabio cooking on Ellen Degeneres’ show? It was fantastic. He’s delightful and I believe deserved “fan favorite”. You can go to her webiste, and search the videos. It’s good.

Last night I got a sneaking suspicion that Tom will be offering Hosea a chef’s position at one of his (many) restaurants in NYC. I might be wrong, but I’ll be paying attention.

Still love Carla!

The reunion show is on NOW - 7 PM EST Thursday.

the footage of what they did to amuse themselves in the holding room while waiting for verdicts was great, especially making playthings out of the glad products and getting drunk…they should show more footage like that!!
