Fides et Ratio is latin for faith and reason. I changed it to Fides et Captio, which translates to faith and fallacy.

The english word Captious originates from captio.

*(I just arrived from Italy after four years)

qwilde- no, but I may as well be from the UK :)

Why is that?

I love it, the way they talk, the music, the cities, the beer, and dont forget the footy

You can never forget the footy. I guess I could say the same about the U.S (with the exception of some places/states).

I’m a hardcore Man U fan…do you support any particular team? If you support Liverpool just say “no” .

There are scholars who study this subject and they conduct research and publish them in scholarly journals.

As we are all (presumably) advocates of college and graduate education and learning from scholars, the best approach would be to read some of the scholarly literature. Get on a college library web site and search the scholarly literature or call someone at a local university who is an expert in the area. Otherwise, you can spout theories all day long and not get anywhere.

That’s music to my ears. I haven’t heard that chant in years; that and “olay olay olay”. If you ever visit England becareful not to chant that in certain places, though. I miss the footy matches in good old Trafford. Football isn’t very popular over here in the U.S. so subsequently I haven’t been able to see any of their recent matches .

Liverpool fans can definitely be a little …ugh eupheinism ugh euphenism…rowdy.

yea, you have to like order special channels to catch any epl match-ups. only champions league is on espn. my dream is to watch the reds play at old trafford. they come over to play the mls, but its like their second team…none of the big names.

Yeah, that is unfortunate. I’m sure that football will eventually catch on in the states (I’m really surprised it hasn’t). I don’t know if watching MAN U live would be as glorious as it once was, such as back in 98 - I don’t know if you knew of them back then.

man u sucks now …
oh n BTW CHELSEA rules…

Blasphemy!
…lol. I’ll subconciously agree that Man U seems to going down hill, but my unequivocal bond as a fan will never allow me to truly admit it.

P.S. Chelsea is rubbish

I remember that source very well and I was tempted to use it until I check the source. It’s published over a decade ago, and seeing as many things have changed over the last decade, those stats should have changed. I’m really amazed at the lack of studies over the causes of marriage…

You guys are overanalyzing. If nobody married, nobody would divorce. So the ultimate cause of divorce is marriage.

I’ll go with that as the best answer.

Esattamente!

It’s not really complicated:

THE PILL in effect frees women to act like men (1960) + HUGE CHANGE IN FEMALE ATTITUDE IN REFERENCE TO RECREATIONAL SEX (mid-60’s and onward) = SEX REVOLUTION (whereby sex to a large extent becomes disconnected from love, committment, or marriage - (Hugh Heffner’s wish))

SEX REVOLUTION = huge increase in females willing to have sex with married men

SEX REVOLUTION makes married men believe they are missing out on new wave of liberated women

MARRIAGE plus sex outside of marriage with non-spouse = LARGE SPIKE IN DIVORCE RATE (late 60s to 1980’s and flattening but still high since then 1980’s)

THEREFORE: underlying cause of high divorce rate can be traced primarily to THE PILL

I am mostly in agreement with you (where we differ is on the “primary” cause, which I see as the much larger problem of Godlessness). Your post brings to mind Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae, in which the late Holy Father laid down the law on all forms of contraception and birth control, ex cathedra. What he said would happen because of the pill and condoms is exactly what has happened over the past forty years.

Unfortunately, much of the Church – the majority of the Catholic laity all the way up to many top theologians of the day – ignored him outright. The allure of worry-free sex was just too great.

“Christian Fundamentalism: The doctrine that there is an absolutely powerful, infinitely knowledgeable, universe spanning entity that is deeply and personally concerned about my sex life.”

“If god doesn’t like the way I live, Let him tell me, not you.”
