Tough Decision -- choosing between a worthless degree and a good education

@JadedJunior

I like to generalize things to the point that I can use my education in multiple ways, as such, I don’t think I’ll be satisfied with jobs that ask for repetitive simple work. At the same time, this means I haven’t chosen a career in the sense that some people do. Its more about “what can I do, and how can these skills be applied to improve the world in some way?” I mean, even entrepreneurship is on the table.

I think I’d enjoy something like GoogleX and the likes. I’d also considered LCSW work, but have been slowly moving away from that idea since transferring, but it certainly still sounds like meaningful work worth doing, perhaps later in life nearer to retirement.

I originally had considered pursuing PhD’s, but I think that might not be possible now thanks to UCI and my repeating of elementry classes (this really bothers me). Who knows though, maybe I can turn it around with upward trends and high GRE’s.

Leave uci.
A combination of psychology and CS would be very useful to you for a career.
Do you have a job and a place to live Can you attend a cc paying out of pocket (when asked ‘do you accept your fa package’ say no. Simple. Check with the parents I listed above above this just to double check/make sure.)
Is there a tag to call poly slo or cpp or ucsb?

Yeah, I think MYOS’s suggestion would be useful for a career at Google or some similar company. Do you think your school will let you take 5 years to graduate?

I think that’s actually the way most people choose careers. Relatively few people actually set out and say “I want to be an X” and then work to build the skills in that X. Most of the jobs out there are not jobs that children dream about doing - they end up there as adults through a variety of channels.
