Tours in Ireland?

Another question: has anyone been to Northern Ireland, and can you recommend any of the mural tours? Would prefer to walk, but a lot of the personal tours seem to be in cabs. If you took one of these, did you get to walk for at least part of it?

We are thinking about going to Belfast for the weekend between Scotland and when DH needs to head out of Dublin to catch a flight to Basel for work. While DH is in Basel, I’m heading down to the auld sod in Clonmel/Cashel/Kilkenny.

I’ve been to NI several times but I have not taken one of the taxi tours. I have done an open top bus tour of Belfast though, which was really good. You probably don’t want to walk round many of the main mural areas. Some parts are pretty grim. The centre of Belfast is fine.

I highly recommend the north coast from Carrickfergus to Giant’s Causeway. It’s really beautiful. Probably easiest to access with a car though.

We did Paddy Campbell’s cab tour in Belfast and highly recommend. There was very little walking involved, but we did make frequent stops to get out and take pictures. The Titanic Museum is also well worth a visit.

In the south, we used Railtours Ireland for the Cliffs of Moher and also for the Aran Islands, and were very pleased:

You have lots of great suggestions already, but I just have to add Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, which is absolutely stunning:

So excited for you! Ireland has my heart.

The private tours we booked in Galway were customized to what we wanted. One was a walking tour other a car tour. I am sure if you email the tour guide that would be happy to accommodate you with a walking tour.

oh, and I second Kylemore Abbey. Even my 13 and 20yo were in awe. They were mad we got there so late in the day.
