I also have been looking at the iPhone and BB Bold as I am with AT&T. I truly have no need for either of these phones, I just want one! My daughter swears I will never get use to the keyboard for texting on the iPhone. She said her friends that have had it for months still have trouble. Of course, I don’t text as often or as fast as the kids, so maybe I will not be as frustrated as they are.

Not all the bells and whistles, but the Samsung Propel is a nice phone for texting as it has a full keyboard. Costco is offering it for $49 for an upgrade and their phones usually come with an accessory pack that comes with a car charger, a case and bluetooth. Costco also waives the $36 activation fee. If you are a new customer to AT&T, many of the phones are free!

What bluetooth do people like with the iPhone or the BB? Any that are not compatible? I have a very slight hearing lost so I prefer to have a bluetooth in my ear when on the phone.

A timely headline - Apple just rolled out a software update to the iPhone improving it and adding some features apparently to hold ground with the BB Storm -

I have tested more than a dozen bluetooth devices with my iPhone (I am in the telecom industry so have access to lots of toys) and have never had one that did not work with it. You can almost certainly use whatever you are using with your current phone.

As for texting - I know that some people are saying that they have had issues getting used to the keyboard but I certainly have had no problems - and looking at my last month’s statement, my DS had over 4000 text messages on his.

For those that have the iPhone, did you get it at the Apple store or the AT&T store? I thought someone told me if you picked it up at the Apple store that the guys there would be able to help you with set up and transfer information over. Usually the guys at AT&T are not as knowledgeable as the one at Apple, so I figured it might be smarter to order it through Apple.

My daughter is most likely getting the iPhone this weekend, so I wanted to figure out which store to go to. We are currently with AT&T and this will be an upgrade for her. Early and only Hanukkah present!!

snowball:
I first went to the Apple store to buy my iPhone since there’s one a couple miles from my house. However, they didn’t know how to do the billing adjustments I needed and this included both the 18 y/o sales guy and the manager. They wanted to add charges for the iPhone and then have me call AT&T later to do the fixup but I said ‘no thanks’. I headed to the AT&T store (a real one - not a kiosk in the mall) and they fixed me right up. The guy took extra time to intro the device to me and waived the connection fee.

Like a previous poster, I have “fat fingers disease” and find typing on my iPhone easier than on BB. I’ve dropped my phone frequently, slammed in a car door a half a dozen times and have severely dented it. Only problem, the camera shutter doesn’t completely open (get half photos). So its been a very sturdy device for me. The free apps and new firmware update allow me to tailor this for both my professional and personal life.

Ultimate choice is likely dependent on who your cell service provider is!

New question-- DH is interested in the Blackberry Bold. Doesn’t want the touch screen on teh Blackberry Storm. Does anyone have the Blackberry Bold?

I don’t think you can go wrong with the Bold. It doesn’t have the apps that the iphone does, but for email/phone, it’s probably the best choice.

I am with Verizon and we cannot change carriers, so the Bold and the I-phone are not options. I had been waiting to see the Storm, though the Motorola Q9C has been highly recommended by a friend who works in the business. I did not get there before they ran out of them yesterday, but today H and I visited the Verizon store at a local mall and there were two display Storms there for exploration. The one we tried was not very responsive…is it possible it was demo fatigue? I do not want to order one unless I know it will work well, but I really need to do this in 2008. What a quandary! H has used a Blackberry for several years, and he did not think I would like it. His older Blackberry accesses the internet, but it is very slow. Presumably the newer ones are faster.

I think the Storm is good. See the WSJ link I posted above. I think the review covers it pretty well. RIM makes really good products and I don’t think you have to worry about the quality or responsiveness. The one I played with worked fine. I think you will like it.

My daughter is now the proud owner of an iPhone. After playing with all the phones at AT&T, she decided on the iPhone. She has a couple of friends with the iPhone so we knew how it operated. After having a Samsung Blackjack for two years, she didn’t like the way the BB Bold reacted. I think she has liked her Blackjack enough and I have thought about getting the Blackjack II for myself.

If I get a chance to play with her iPhone, I might consider one for myself, but I might just be cheap and go with the Blackjack II!
