When Ion posted his “woe is me I lost my valuables” post, someone responded to him that “every time” he visited, he had warned him about how dangerous the place was, and Ion’s only response was to “laugh.” It’s social media, yes, but it does make me wonder how long the tenant knew that this situation was not only illegal, but unsafe.
Well I think having his kids removed because CPS deemed the living conditions were “unsafe” would have given him a clue!
“And definitely the owner. I don’t buy that the owner was unaware of what was going on and how the building was being used.”
I don’t either, but I don’t think that will matter in a civil suit.
The lessee likely doesn’t have a pot to piss in but he’ll be in prison for a very long time anyway.
I found out this morning that we know one of the young men who has been confirmed dead. My sons went to preschool with him. I am heart broken for the family.

When you are a kid, especially from a protected background, you don’t think about these things. You just assume that everything will be okay. I remember sitting at a table down by the dance floor at Gulliver’s. It was like a maze to get out. It horrifies me even now to think of being there.
Sounds like it was electrical,

@Consolation My D said the same thing. It could have been her among the victims. She wouldn’t think to see if it’s safe. Would just assume it is.
My husband and I were thinking the same thing. I don’t think either of our kids would ever be drawn to living in such a setting but I could imagine them attending an event like that given their involvement/interest in local art and music scenes. Sad.
I just started a new thread on the question of how to advise our kids regarding the safety of venues
