Transfer Admissions Announcement

some of you are really overreacting. It really suck and I feel for you but you should have known going in that transfer students are at the bottom of the totem pole. It’s more than likely that none of you would have gotten in in the first place.

No one is going to “drag” Harvard’s name through the mud; it’s widely considered the best university in the world. They could have just denied everyone and not refunded their money and almost every kid in America would STILL kill to go to school there.

edit: this is aimed at those who are threatening lawsuits, petitions and e-mail campaigns. Again, I totally understand the feelings of most of you, it’s just that a few need to come to grips with reality.

Jerks…

True.

Take a couple days to vent/rant then remind yourself that you don’t need Harvard whatsoever to obtain a good education.

I understand that you transfer applicants got royally shafted, but don’t you think Harvard has already considered the fact that many will threaten legal action? Though they behaved completely tactlessly, I’m sure Harvard is within the law.

and the law probably is merely that they must give back the fee.

Wow. What everyone else said. I thought this was going to be a hard time for me, but this is terrible. I can’t believe Harvard would do something like this.

why couldn’t they just accept one? it would’ve spared them this humiliation, and they’d have by far the lowest transfer acceptance rate in the country.

seriously, though, while i can see justisfication for it on harvard’s part, i feel for the transfer applicants.

Were those decision-making persons totally drunk while making such ridiculous decisions? What a shame on Harvard. I could not believe I had that much faith and interest in Harvard.

Why couldn’t they make such decisions prior to the application?

I don’t care about the refund, because they just WON’T BE ABLE TO pay me back all the time and energy I spent on this.

Consider your Visiting Undergraduate Program ? Are you kidding me?

I feel totally unrespected and insulted. Even cheated, to be exact.

for some numbers to call.

According to the e-mail, it was his conclusion, “that our Houses cannot successfully accommodate any new transfer students.”

I think the law would be more than just a refund of the application fee.

If you’re sending inquiries, I think its a good idea to send emails DIRECTLY to the Dean.

I’d hate to be the person that only applied to Harvard.

A Harvard Crimson Article on this is at

[The Harvard Crimson :: News :: College Eliminates Transfer Admissions for Next Two Years](http://www.thecrimson.com/article.aspx?ref=522688)

I can’t believe that they didn’t even mention that the decision came after the application deadline and the 2008-2009 transfer applications were already submitted!!!
I’ll keep hoping and praying that this terrible and rude decision is somehow taken back.

Actually ‘stoneimmaculate’ this is a story that aside from a few rants on college confidential will really not get any attention. And in a world where I have seen 24-hour coverage on a politician and his high class hooker, I think that one of the country’s most prominent universities treating its applicants so poorly deserves a bit more of ripple. The only thing that prevents them from doing this (in the same fashion) in subsequent years is if this garners bad PR.

And its not about rabidly suing a school for not getting in, like you said transfer to Harvard is about the biggest crapshoot you could think of, its about the school pulling such a stunt 5 days after the deadline when their explanation implies that they knew about this trend quite a while in advance. You wouldn’t expect something like this from a community college located above a Deli, let alone Harvard.

Complaints and inquiries won’t help at all. They could simply pull out other reasons and excuses.

It is even possible that what they said in the announcement is an excuse itself. The admissions is always a mystery, and now just disrespectingly mysterious.

That’s such a despicable thing to do. If they’re going to cut transfers cold turkey like that, they could at least have the courtesy to announce it BEFORE the application deadline.

wow… this sucks hard… I really feel sorry for the transfer ppl, since I’d be FURIOUS myself

actually, as everyone can recall, they even made a one-day extension to the application deadline… the application was due on 02/16 instead of 02/15.

This means that they haven’t started to make any plans or strategies until a month after all the applications were submitted.

SOMEONE PLEASE SUE HARVARD IF THEY DON’T GO BACK ON THIS!!!How rude and disrespectful Harvard acts towards its own applicants!!!

I think it would be a good idea to call the Harvard Crimson at 617.576.6565 to make sure that this story continues to receive attention. Try to get a hold of other media attention as well.

Comon, accepting applications for transfers for the 2008-2009 academic year and then after the deadline for applications has passed and after all that work coming out and saying that they won’t accept Transfers due to housing limits? This is so unfair.
