Your son needs to talk to his prospective roommates ASAP. There is often a friend waiting in the wings who would jump at the sublet– but act fast before everyone has already committed to a place and a group of roommates for the year….

Now weather isn’t great -but I wonder if somewhere like UNH or URI might be on the table - I have heard good things about UNH business school (from a college prof at another school who has a kid there), and not at a hard admit. (Website says 3.0 for business transfers How to Apply: Transfer | Undergraduate Admissions) Especially if you are Ok with paying OOS tuition, I am sure a hockey rink is available:)… train to Boston (hourish), and near an ocean, even. URI is practically in a beach town (though once again, obviously cold in winter). Both not high stress schools, as such things go by all accounts, but a flagship. Locally known as being somewhat party schools. Physical proximity to major major metro areas to me seems an advantage to me over some other “directional” schools
Both are pretty campuses IMO.

So we are to the pint he’s agreed to leave…b4 it sounded like more you and you were pushing that way…
Would he apply for business or another ?
I see a lot of cold weather schools mentioned ? Are they on the table as you initially said ‘nice’ weather.
He has decided to leave. He’s still listing colleges to apply to. I think he wants to stay with business. Of course he’s starting the transfer process while also doing his studies, so it’ll take a bit. As for where, I love the idea of him being someplace warmer and smaller, but would like to be able to drive to see him -all of these things can’t be true at the same time though!

Christopher Newport - small public LAC in Newport News, gorgeous campus, several business majors, not horribly far from NJ and ice rink is 10 minutes away.
Maybe too cold but near Lancaster Pa which has a rink - you have Millersville (a PA public) and pricey LAC in town Franklin & Marshall.
James Madison is larger but not Purdue large - in N Virginia. Winter skating (outdoors) is 20 mins. Solid b school outcomes but only part year skate
Maybe too far for you but UNC Wilmington might be the best choice of all. Nice city to visit too. Full time rink close by.
Maybe too close to home and too big but a tad warmer with ice skating on campus - u del.
