Transfer Student- MIT, Caltech, Wash U, Harvey Mudd

P.S
Should I mention in my application that I’m in the process of receiving a green card? will it increase my chances?

I didnt know that there is BJJ at Mudd, now I want to go there even more.
BJJ is the real thing… It thought me a lot- physically and mentally.

I think it would be good to mention it. One more tip for you, my friend is in Georgia tech ECE program currently. He has a 4.0 GPA. He applied for stanford EE and MIT EECS as a transfer student, and unfortunately he got rejected. You know well top 10 university course work is crazy hard compared to Community College. Since the grading is curved, students have to compete with others. And, only certain amount of people get an As. I think any CC has a curve system. As long as you get above 90, you get an A. The reason why, I’m saying this is if you are admission officer, who would choose people who have 4.0 GPA in University or in CC? It is super competitive like MIT and stanford. Berkeley is even worse because they hardely select out of state students. For example, the statistic shows that stanford EE department selected only 20 students out of 2000 applicants last year. You know well those applicants are super smarts kids. Unfortunately, the possibility is almost 0% for CC students to transfer those schools. But, you can try UIUC,Georgia tech, and Umich though. Those schools have great ECE departments. They are highly ranked in the nation. Try those schools. If you get above 3.8 GPA over there, you are treated like people who go to MIT and Stanford. But, it is freaking hard.

*Do you have any suggestions about what things to emphasize from my resume on the MIT and Mudd essays? *

I was creative with my Mudd essay. Rather than just talk about myself straight out, I described myself as a three dimensional function of two variables. (not telling you what). Standing out when immersed in an application pool of 250+ students is always a good thing.

Thank you all for your replies.
I sent all of my applications! (except from Mudd)
Now, all of I can do is just sit and wait…
I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you again…

A.A

I finished the Caltech transfer exams. Does anyone know what is the average score on this exams or how much weigh Caltech’s admissions put on it?

Hello again everyone…
I just wanted to give you a few updates on my applications:
HMC- didn’t complete my application.
MIT- rejected.
KU- accepted w/ scholarship (didnt apply for fin aid).
UIUC- accepted.
Columbia GS- accepted.
Wash U.- accepted.

Caltech- ACCEPTED! (it was my first choice )

Cornell- pending.
CMU- pending.

So for all of you current & future transfers, believe in yourselves b/c everything is possible if you just work hard enough (usually).
Again, thank you for your opinions earlier.

congrats on getting accepted to caltech

This topic is from one year ago just so you know
Nonetheless quite inspiring ;D

you know what is the acceptance rate as a transfer to Harvard? It is 0%, Standford 1.9%. guess what they are not from community college they are from ivy league universities. you have .01% chance of accept on all of those.
