People transfer all the time. There’s no shame. If you’re not happy after two years, then it’s fine.
So you’d start next year.
Is it, if you stay at CWRU two more years it will cost X
If you stay at Rice 2.5, it’ll cost Y
make sure they are paying 2.5
so the other cost are social (restart) and potential lost income during the extra semester.
If you can’t afford case, you can’t afford it. There’s no shame looking elsewhere. Not a bad reflection at all.
In the end, you are what matters -what you bring - Case or Rice don’t matter. It’s the person. Both schools as well as your in state public or a dirt cheap public like an Alabama or Miss State or Purdue - it’s the person, not the school.
So if Rice works for you economically, that’s great.
It’s zero Reflection on you. Going into debt bcuz you are buying what you can’t afford - that will badly impact your life. That would reflect badly…to those who know you.
So from
An outside perspective, it does seem quite easy.
But you have emotion involved and I get that. I don’t so I see it black and white.
I believe OP transferred from Georgetown to Case, so it will be one year at each school (and in Case’s case, it’s not even been one semester so far). See OP’s previous thread. But it’s still fine for them to transfer if needed!
Actual physics jobs are not that common, although physics majors often find their way into other jobs where their quantitative skills are valued (e.g. computing, quantitative finance, some types of engineering). However, if those other jobs are the target, then there may be other majors more directly suited to prepare for them.
Avionics is different from astrophysics in that avionics is more of an engineering area rather than a science area like astrophysics.
Not if we gave you bad advice. But I remember you wanted to be an engineer - so the odds were far better at CWRU than a school that doesn’t offer engineering.
How about your home state flagship - do they have a low income financing plan that might be cheaper and/or more credit transfer friendly than Rice?
But I’m the king of not borrowing etc. so if I knew something was not affordable cash pay, I’d never recommend it. Others here disagree with me.
I guess the other learning is - Rice is giving you a # but CWRU gave you a # too. You’re saying it wasn’t accurate.
How do you know Rice’s will be?
But I do think the biggest impact to cost will be - are they assuring 4 semesters of aid or 5 or 6 if needed - because if it’s only 4 and you need more, now you have a full pay semester.
Transfers often have different rules. I don’t know about Rice.
I plan on calling Rice Admission and trying to get all this information at around 4pm, which for me is in like two hours. I do not think my state flagship would be cheaper than this.
It may be financial aid you have to reach out to. You can start with admission. They will guide you.
Good luck.
PS - did CWRU tell you why the $$ amount changed? There has to be a reason - your or their error. Maybe they can adapt it so you can stay if they understand the situation.
I think that is a little bit too personal, if the situation ever gets resolved, I would be glad to tell you. But Case and I are still emailing and meeting about it so I do not want to say something I should not and make Case look bad.
