lol Cal-O, weak!

for TAP is it always the case that the uc’s will consider ur second major if u get rejected because u didn’t meet the major requirements for ur first major?
one person said tap is like having “two tries” at ucla.

this is the primary advantage of tap program i believe?

Yes. I heard this from a UCLA counselor, so I think this is a valid claim. I’ve also heard people say that TAP gives students “special consideration,” whatever that means.

But dude, don’t sweat it. I’ve seen your stats, and you seem like a very well qualified applicant for the Art History major. I’ve seen a lot of people both here and from my school who got into UCLA without some of their major requirements, and with even lower GPAs than you (I know someone who got into UCLA who finished his major requirements during the summer prior to enrollment with a 2.9~ GPA for Poli Sci…).

For me TAP was the most important by far! Without TAP I would have absolutely NO chance at UCLA! So many people with 3.7+ GPAs were rejected from UCLA this fall and I was admitted!

TAP is #1!!

3.46 BizEcon major Tap Certified to UCLA - Accepted

UCLA holds scertain seats open just for TAP students. I signed a contract with UCLA that gauranteed that I would get “Priority consideration for admission to UCLA”

i 100% agree with dhl3

Tap IS the most important!! (at least from ccc)
i’m from a CCC so I know it’s very important.
What dhl3 tells is totally true, although most people don’t follow TAP…
Scholars (Honors) Program is AS IMPORTANT as TAP.

Last year, from my cc, I heard from my counselor that
almost everyone (about 150~200 people) got into UCLA from honors program.
The few that got rejected had obvious reasons, such as having too many D’s and F’s.

pre reqs have a huge impact on decision, HUGE. And most people who apply are missing atleast one.

Yah! I heard i got rejected because I didnt complete my pre-req…
So in my opinon:

1)GPA
2)Pre-req
3)TAP!!
4)IGETC

Therefore, I just joined Honors Program!! I am going to get TAP certifed baby!!! Fall 08!!!
UCLA Here I go!!!

you’re all wrong.

1) TAP
2)
3)
4) prereqs
5) GPA

Question: Has anyone got rejected by UCLA? PPl who got TAP certified? but over 3.0

TAP is obviously more important that GPA… TAP overrides GPA and lets you in if you have a low GPA. I got into BizEcon with 3.46… People with 3.79 got rejected…

Transferring to UCLA’s capped L&S majors from CCC’s only:
- 60 unit requirement must be met
- Major and lower div. pre-req. completion - Automatic denial without it. Lower division pre-req.'s such as english composition are required of all applicants, regardless of major impactedness.
- GPA - If 1-2 are met, then transfers need a 3.2+ GPA regardless of TAP or IGETC certification for admission. Applicants with 3.2 or below are rarely accepted.
- TAP - If 1-3 are met, this gives students priority consideration
- IGETC - If 1-3 are met, this will give a competitiveness boost
- Essay - Basic check to see if the applicant can express themselves coherently. Also used for borderline candidates.
- EC’s - Used for borderline candidates

For a priority entrance, just complete 1-7 with a 4.0.

Torrancecali: I’ve seen a few tap certified applicants who have been rejected. Their GPA’s were around 3.4-3.6.

Awesome breakdown walnut. I agree.

I find it hard to believe that TAP applicants with 60+ units, IGETC and major prep, with transferable english and math courses completed have been rejected

I was 3.46 BizEcon with all that done and I was accepted.

0) 60 unit req.
- gpa
- pre-reqs/igetc
- tap
- essay

edit: tap doesnt overwrite anything, if you have a 3.9, a 3.9 > 3.4 from tap.

tap only hooks it up for borderline applicants, esp 3.2-3.4. and/or you are applying to an impacted major. Otherwise, tap is worthless.

So PRE-REQ GPA doesn’t matter at all?

TAP doesn’t just hook it up for borderline applicants. I had no chance without TAP and I made it in with TAP.

3.46 to Business Econ has no chance… yet I tapped it.

hey guys, how is ucla?

im applying for bus/econ @ ucla and i’m TAPing, but the only thing holding me back seems to be:

i havent finished my math requirements, i have to do 2nd sem of calc this spring, i waived my 1st sem w/ ap credit (confirmed with a ucla rep)

and i’m doing eng1c this winter – everything else is done w/ a 4.0

will this severely hurt my chances? i have a 3.77. should i explain that i couldnt finish my math requirement because of work constrains? i’m only doing a year at my CC

rshaan,

As long as you do it before you transfer, it’s not a problem. You’re not supposed to have everything done NOW.

You’re clearly a match/safe match for transfer. Good job and good luck.

so TAP is better than IGETC for biz econ right

No, if you do not complete IGETC before transfer there is a great chance that you will not be allowed to transfer. You must complete your IGETC and major prerequisites before you transfer. TAP is great but it is much more important to complete IGETC and major prerequisites.

i got into biz econ. im at ucla now… i tapped and i had a 3.46 when i transferred, IGETC done and pre-reqs done for the biz econ major.

i dont get why you have to apply as a pre- biz econ major. its my second quarter here and im still a “pre business economics” major here at ucla… you have to apply for the biz econ major later after u finish some classes here anyways, so u might as well apply as a econ major , cuz i believe anyone in the econ department is allowed to apply for biz econ.

once ur here u need a certain overall gpa and a certain gpa in certain classes to get into biz econ
