“they’re fairly tolerable” and “the thought of being lectured by a nobody” -shame on you for your rudeness. The sign of a great mind is when you can recognize that you can learn much from anyone.

How would you feel if you had AP credit but had to go back to learn English I from someone who was likely to pull out Strunk and White and other prescriptivist poppycock on you? (The book has been discredited by linguists at Language Log, by the way, an organisation that includes linguists from UPenn and Cambridge.)

[Language Log Prescriptivist Poppycock](<a href=“Language Log » Prescriptivist poppycock”>Language Log » Prescriptivist poppycock)

Anyway that was really only a side digression aimed at my peers. It wasn’t aimed at parents.

A “nobody”? Who the heck do you think you are, Galoisien? You’re a young kid who’s just finished his first year at UVA and you already are convinced that the lecturers or professors at CC’s would be “nobodies”?

I’m lost as to why everyone’s jumping on you.

Sorry I can’t offer anything to your original post.

Pizzagirl: when I look up the instructors on Google Scholar I can’t find any of their papers.

I’m a bit uneasy about being lectured by someone who hasn’t published…

I didn’t say that.

I said the lecturers at this CC. (And plus their website isn’t very well-designed. And they teach “bioenergy and healing” courses, wth.) A CC that is part of the Northern Virginia Community College system is a different matter entirely.

The lecturers have nothing to do with the design of the website, of course.

You have got a lot of growing up to do. You know, for all your I-was-transformed-by-my-chemistry-prof that you’ve talked about, it’s quite possible that some lecturers at community colleges inspire their students just as much.

And not everyone “publishes” because some people actually DO, instead of just research.

Compare:

[url=http://www.pvcc.edu/]PVCC - Welcome/url

[url=http://www.nvcc.edu/]Northern Virginia Community College/url

It’s not just about the layout – it’s the attitude of the language, how the institution presents their course of study, etc.

Don’t you think you would feel a bit sketchy taking an English course from PVCC instead of one in a NoVa CC?
